Art Gallery DC Relaunch Party at Meltdown: Cosplay, Comics, and Catwomen Galore

There may be a big resurgence of all things nerd going on right now, but as the line between ‘geek’ and ‘nerd’ and ‘dork’ thins, as those damn hipsters start to infiltrate the scene wearing pairs of black framed glasses and pre-washed baseball comic shirts from Target, Meltdown Comics on Sunset may be the last bastion of all things nerd. Some might even call it Xanadu.

And tonight was to mark an historic event: for the first time since the 1980s, DC Comics were going to be rebooting every single one of their comic franchises. The first, Justice League #1, was to officially drop at midnight.

Fashion Gallery Comic Book Vixens = Every Fanboy’s Wet Dream

Despite missing Comic-Con this year, I have experienced in an hour what many lifelong attendees won’t. Ever. For instance, if I were to tell you that at this year’s convention, every hot chick dressed as a comic book character will be doused with a Smylex-like pheromone gas that will make them instantaneously peel off their clothes, chances are you’d kill/pillage/etc. to get tickets.

Or you could have done something even better, and gone to Comic Book Vixens — the new show by the burlesque troop Devil’s Playground. Which did all that, and more. This thing couldn’t have been more perfectly tailored to any comic (especially DC!) aficionado. Naked Harley Quinn. Naked Poison Ivy. You get the picture — if not, have some…

Comic Books Wonder Woman: Don’t Eff With an Icon

I don’t have to tell you that this week DC Comics released the new look for Wonder Woman, by Don Kramer. It’s not only the comic universe that is in an uproar, but pretty much everyone that ever had a fond memory or attachment to the heroine. After all she was one of the only superheros who didn’t have a male counterpart come first. I mean, really…there wasn’t much of a need for a Wonder Man.

Just recently I started watching the original 1974 TV series with the gorgeous Linda Carter filling WW’s red leather boots. With the risk of dating myself, I remember catching episodes as a little girl and being absolutely titillated by her glossy brown hair and overt sexuality. My Mother thought she was a bit scandalous, which made me all the more interested in paying very close attention. I think for a lot of girls, Wonder Woman was the first female we had access to as a role model.
