Video Bruno Mars: Just the Way You Are

January 13, 2011 - 2:46 pm

Despite the fact that popular radio has this song on once an hour, I like it. It’s a sweet little feel good ditty that sticks. And the video is equally precious with its unassuming young love in bloom. However, I find it incredibly hard to imagine that the generation listening to Bruno Mars gets the cassette tape reference. Where did they even find a cassette tape player…the Smithsonian?

Regardless, people of a certain age will be won over by this nod to times when your music spun round and round on little wheels of tape. Enjoy!

Music Keri Hilson Turns It On

Keri Hilson - No Boys Allowed

Over the years the list of female artists who went from virginal to bad girl has expanded. Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna, to name a few, are all examples of female artists who by their sophomore album unleashed their inner sexual deviant. Taylor Swift might be next, but in the meantime, there’s Keri Hilson.

Hilson started in the entertainment industry as a songwriter for artists such as Britney Spears, Usher, Ciara, Ludacris, and now is a popular R&B singer in the limelight herself. She eased into her singing career crooning sweet songs about love and broken hearts. Dressed sexy and feminine, she still left plenty to the imagination. And then, like another Lindsay Lohan get-out-of-jail-free rehab stint, Hilson put out a video earlier this week that has her fans going hmmmmm???

Music What Its Really Like to Try to Break Into the Music Industry

December 10, 2010 - 1:54 pm

Thanks to the fine folks at xtranormal.com for developing this amazing technology that allows you to create your own movies by typing. Its pretty fun playing out your most irritating conversations, or your most fantastic ones. I particularly liked the above commentary on the state of the Music Industry. I couldn’t have said it better myself. Only, you know, in a slightly less creepy robot voice.

Midnight Juggernauts

Not quite sure what they’re putting in the water over there, but Australia seems to have become a distribution hub for the kind of shoegaze dance pop that invariably puts you in a good mood every time you listen to it. What started in the ’80s with groups like Severed Heads continues today with groups like Cut Copy, The Presets and Melbourne’s very own DIY kings Midnight Juggernauts, whose latest full-length, The Crystal Axis, is in heavy rotation over here in the ChinaShop offices. Currently on tour–check the bottom of this post for dates near you–the three scruffy gents with a penchant for vintage synths and paper-folding (check the video after the jump) took some time out from being stranded in Miami to answer some questions about the new record.

Music Coachella 2011: So who’s playing?

November 17, 2010 - 3:43 pm

As any die-hard desert rat will tell you, it’s never too early to speculate on who will be playing Coachella. But there’s always “that one dude” who just takes it way too far, which is why this video is one of the funniest (and most spot-on) takes on pre-festival chatter we’ve ever seen.

Dave Grohl

Poor Dave Grohl. Traumatized by events that happened at a Scissor Sisters show, he’s suing the band, their management, the venue, and Ticket Master for the sum of $75 Million dollars. Well, I’ll let him tell you. Dave, we’re behind you all the way buddy. No one should have to re-live such an event! You deserve every dime!
