Music Exclusive: Frazey Ford Acoustic Set
How many times can you truly say, “I’ve never heard anything like that before?” Maybe it’s a band’s particular sound or the way a player tunes and plays his bass guitar. (Rest in peace, Mark Sandman.) Maybe it’s the way a programmer routes his drums through all his guitar pedals, then triggers hits with an MPC while outputting through a talk box. (You laugh now…) In the fickle, tweet-happy blogosphere, it’s become increasingly difficult to leave a lasting impression with your listeners.
Unless you sing like Frazey Ford.

Video Foo Fighters Live #notatcoachella
Although I sent a lucky team of contributors out to the desert on their own personal musical journey this weekend, I am #notatcoachella. So I’m promoting all the awesome that is happening not there. If you are on twitter, use the hash tag #notatcoachella and you can contribute to the millions of us finding fun elsewhere.
In the meantime, the Foo Fighters are also #notatcoachella this year. And their new album, Wasting Light, was just released like a wild boar into my consciousness. I think these boys are onto something!

Music Mandy’s Music Mail 2/11/11
Lady Gaga released her song “Born This Way” today and HOMEGIRL TOTES STOLE MY LINE: “…put your paws up.” I’ve been saying paws instead of hands for ages now (because “paws” is such an adorable word)! Feeling kind of “eh” about the song but I reckon it’ll grow on me; reminds me of something I would have loved when I was 16 – you know, the kind of song you blast in the car with your friends when you first get your license and you drive around listening to music as loud as you want just for the sake of driving around and listening to music? Good times…
Video Watsky’s Fast Rap…5 Million Strong
The kid is fast, I can not lie. Although this video has been viewed over 5.4 Million (yes…MILLION) times, maybe you haven’t seen it yet. Call me crazy but the kid deserves it. He has just the right amount of flow and irreverence to make him kind of a big deal. You go Watsky! Hit 6M by the end of day!
Music Mandy’s Music Mail 1/21/11
Some awesome sauce happenings in the music world this week; one of those wonderful weeks where there was so much great stuff, it was hard to narrow down which ones to post. So, let’s get to it, eh?
I love, love, love She & Him (confession: I also have a total girl crush on Zooey Deschanel and kind of… sort of… okay totally want to be her BFF (clarification: NOT in a creepy Single White Female sort of way though). She’s absolutely gorgeous, makes awesome films (500 Days of Summer; Elf (don’t lie, you know you loved it); The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy) awesome retro-inspired music, wears the cutest clothes and just comes across as one of those people who’s just… cool, you know?). Anyway, so as I was saying, err, writing rather – I love She & Him. Miss Deschanel and M. Ward do some fine work indeed; there was a time in my life – what seems like many moons ago now – where I swear they wrote a particular song just for me. It literally depicted exactly how I felt at the time and ever since then I have completely loved these two. Check out their adorable, “retro-futuristic” video for the song “Don’t Look Back” directed by Jeremy Konner.
Music Twin Atlantic New Single Edit Me
The Twin Atlantic boys are gearing up for world domination. Check out there latest song, Edit Me. I have to say, after a long quiet Winter…this is wildly refreshing.
