Music Foo Me Once, Shame on You: Foo Me Twice, Well Alright

September 28, 2011 - 12:53 pm

No matter how you slice it, the Foo Fighters have earned their reputations as the nicest guys in rock n roll. Currently on tour in the US, but heading to Australia later this year, I caught up with them in both Columbus and my hometown of Pittsburgh PA. They threw down a 2 hour and 40 minute set of the loudest, proudest rock from the past 15 years. In a word…EPIC!

Lead singer (as if I have to introduce him), Dave Grohl told me that its like hosting a cocktail party every day at your office. Everyone is there to party and its his job to show them a good time. I can only imagine it being exhausting, but that’s why I’m an Editor, and he’s a Rock Star.

Blink 182 tore it up on the very first Honda Civic Tour 10 years ago in 2001.

Gallery Music A Crüed Awakening

May 9, 2011 - 11:36 am

The story of their career, which the band elected to tell in graphic detail and with complete honesty in their NY Times best-selling 2001 autobiography, The Dirt (soon to be a major motion picture) is one of dirty needles, damaged minds, music industry battles and sex – lots of sex. And the miraculous thing about the Crüe is not that they lived to tell the tale (although that is, in a way, a kind of unholy miracle), it’s that all of their wildly uncontrollable habits are clearly audible in their music. Just listen to these albums, more than 40 million of which have sold worldwide. If you concentrate hard enough, you can hear the sound of the coke coming off the tables, the squeak of the bed springs, and the sheer sleazy grind of California rock over the last two decades.

Last weekend, the Crüe not only gave the East Rutherford crowd their fix, but they also used the event as an opportunity to announce their upcoming headlining tour with equally ornery 80s rockers Poison and the New York Dolls… And yes, Tommy Lee will be hovering, spinning, and drum soloing above your head in his “drum rollercoaster”. Oh, and in true Crüe fashion, The band commissioned their fans to choose the final tour set list (on their website), which includes tracks band hasn’t performed live together in almost 20 years.

Take a look at the fearsome foursome in action at the Bamboozle festival below and get your red hot tour dates after the jump.

Music Nicole Atkins “Kickstarts” Mondo Amore

February 28, 2011 - 9:32 am

Mondo Amore

It’s been three years since her 2007 debut, “Neptune City,” and Nicole Atkins couldn’t be more excited about her February 8th release of “Mondo Amore.” Atkins and her band, which she refers to as The Black Sea, are currently on the road with Cotton Jones in support of the new disc.

The tour was funded in a far from typical way. After posting a humorous video showing the harsh realities of her label lacking an adequate touring budget, Atkins politely asked fans to chip in what they could in order to get her out on the road. Utilizing the services of Kickstarter.com, people that pledged received anything from ‘good karma’ to a band-initiated ‘séance to contact a deceased loved one, Elvis, or whoever you want.’

Atkins goes into more detail in the following interview with ChinaShop:

Gallery Music Young Jesus: The Second Coming

February 7, 2011 - 8:17 am

Young Jesus might consider themselves to be an average bunch of Joe’s from the Midwest, but Red Bull thinks they’re pretty sweet. The Chicago-based band won an opportunity to go head to head against Brighton MA in a national showdown called Rock The Route. Touring across Route 66, the bands competed every stop along the tour and earned points based on performance, fan interaction, fan base, and overall rock factor. A slew of celebrity judges, like the band’s new arch nemesis, the Shiny Toy Guns, offered their feedback and fans also texted in to cast their votes. At the end of the competition, Brighton MA slid into first but Young Jesus had a hell of a ride along the way.

I caught up with the guys at Red Bulls Studios where they were recording two new songs. The guys bum rushed the break room fridge and stocked up on Red Bulls, I slammed an energy shot, and then it was officially Rock The Route story time.

Music Jeffree Star and Friends at Chain Reaction

August 26, 2010 - 10:14 am

Jeffree Star

Shakespeare once said “All the world is a stage.”  For pop culture icon Jeffree Star that stage is a catwalk, and life should be “fierce” at all times. Nothing less will do!

Jeffree Star likes cupcakes, Hello Kitty and all things pink and sparkly, which means we have a lot in common, except I couldn’t walk nearly as well in those heels all night!

The “Lookin’ Hot And Dangerous Tour” kicked off with a sold out stop at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, California and ChinaShop was there to witness the carnage.
