Featured Gallery Music Midnight to 666 With The Lords of Altamont

Driving to the warehouse district of downtown Los Angeles on Saturday night, I, along with half of the motorcyclists in Southern California, drove up a ramp and ended up on top of a parking garage. Walking past trashcan bonfires, taco trucks, and what appeared to at one time be someone’s living room furniture, I had arrived at Cretin’s Motorcycle Club, a sort of secret society biker’s club which happened to be the perfect setting for the Lords of Altamont CD Release/Anti-Valentine’s Day party.

Lords of Altamont

Only the Lords would be capable of pulling off an evening full of stoning Valentine’s Day combined with celebrating the release of their newest album, “Midnight To 666.” The band has undergone several member changes but is confident to have its most solid line up yet, with Jake “The Preacher” Cavaliere on lead vocals and organ, John “Big Drag” Saletra on guitar, Shawn “Sonic” Medina on bass, and Harry Drumdini aka “Full Tilt” on drums. Any venue brave enough to host these rockers would have to have some serious balls.

After a photo shoot that required balancing on rooftop while grasping burning sparklers, The Lords of Altamont and their entourage of saucy go-go dancers divulged wacky tales from the road. From being electrocuted to running from the cops due to a certain ChinaShop photographer’s quest to snap the perfect photo, the Lords of Altamont know how to keep things interesting. They do, after all, have a reputation to uphold.

During their second show in Austin this week, L.A.’s five-piece band The Lords of Altamont plus their go-go dancer are crammed on to the small stage in the corner of Cheapo Discs. This garage punk crew doesn’t let tight quarters confine their energy though as frontman Jake “The Preacher” Cavaliere leads the way shoving his vintage organ around and at one point, jumping on top of it and still performing. That’s the way the Lords roll.

Music The Lords of Altamont Give Good Hurt

The Lords of Altamont

The LA based mondo motorcycle band, The Lords of Altamont give me faith in rock n roll. Lead singer, Jake “The Preacher” Cavaliere is a true showman, whether he’s standing on his electronic organ, or owning the microphone, he commands attention. The show this past Friday night at the Good Hurt in Mar Vista CA started with a wall of sound and ended with 5 stylish but sweaty dudes giving it their all.

The Lords just returned from playing 32 shows in 35 days throughout Europe. No luxury tour coaches for these boys, just 5 guys in a rented van with a map and the passion to play. None the worse for wear they managed to make it out a little tougher, a little wiser, completely selling out of every piece of merch they took with em. Turns out they actually are big in Belguim.

Named for the infamous speedway immortalized in the Rolling Stones concert film, Gimme Shelter, the Lords of Altamont evoke the feeling of psychedelic influenced, 60’s, biker culture. Their collective black hair, skinny jeans, fitted tees and obligatory tattoos unify them as an old school punk rock band. Personally, I appreciate the effort. Their attitudes and attire are more reminiscent of the Steve McQueens of the motorcycle movie world, than say, the Peter Fondas.
