New music, some better than others…Wu-Tang’s Raekwon brings Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang, with its slew of big-time guests stepping it up a notch (Busta Rhymes, Ghostface, and others); good ‘ol benign college alt-rock band R.E.M spits out another one; the fearsome Finnish five release Relentless Reckless Forever. For the punk kiddies, there’s Avril’s new one, Goodbye Lullaby.

Broken Bells 2011

Well it’s a gorgeous, sunny day in lovely London and I’m a bit horse from an epic karaoke session last night with some of my favorites; we sang everything from “Regulate” by Warren G and Nate Dogg, Pulp’s “Common People”, to “A Whole New World” from Aladdin (oh, yes). Was never a real big karaoke girl until I started dating the boy; 2 ½ years later and I’ve officially caught the bug. Round two tonight (thanks to an at-home set! Wooo!), but before that, let’s get to this week’s music news!

Broken Bells, the magical collaboration of Danger Mouse and James Mercer, are releasing a new EP, Meyrin Fields, slated for a March 29th release which will feature three unreleased songs as well as “An Easy Life” (off the iTunes bonus edition of their debut album).  Check the track list after the jump.

Music Other Lives

I first heard of Other Lives when a friend who, when he found out I was going to SXSW mentioned them first in his list of must see acts at the festival.  I take these types of recommendations seriously especially coming from musically well-versed and knowledgeable heads.   I dug in to find out more about this Stillwater Oklahoma band about a week before I left for Austin and what I found only added fuel to my growing interest.
