Gallery Music You Reap What You Sow: Tribal Seeds

August 23, 2011 - 9:01 am

What happens when you rant about federal banks and we happen to have a stack of fake $100 bills nearby? We give them to you to hold, and decide that it would be a fabulous touch to light them on fire. All in the name of a good photo, of course!

Tribal Seeds wandered into their interview with us sweaty, thirsty, and fresh from their outdoor set at the Sunset Strip Music Festival. Thank goodness we were there to provide them with refreshments and take the edge off. And thank goodness we took the edge off because that really facilitated us being able to engage them in some goofy antics.

Based out of San Diego, Tribal Seeds have become the band to watch in the reggae rock scene. The six member group, which features sibling duo Steven Rene and Tony-Ray Jacobo, has created a buzz with their spiritually driven and refreshing roots, rock, and reggae vibe. The guys sat down with ChinaShop to discuss the inspiration behind their controversial lyrics and explain how they were destined to be a reggae band.

Bachaco’s uniqueness only begins with its namesake, a Leafcutter Ant in Venezuela, which are used by native Venezuelan Indians to create a “picante” sauce. Gallery Music Eat, Drink and Be Merry: SulaFest 2011

March 3, 2011 - 10:17 am

SulaFest 2011 proved to be an exciting mix of modern Indian culture, with ingredients including a variety of music, wine, chocolate, and of course, goat cheese.  Just a bumpy 4-hour car ride from Mumbai, the festival took place at the Sula vineyards in the otherwise quiet city of Nashik. First to take the stage was the band “Tough on Tobacco.” Their pop and reggae tunes with a positive message gave a chill backdrop for concertgoers to eat, drink and be merry.

Music Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Live Blog

March 16, 2010 - 8:58 am

iggy and billie

The world is pretty much divided into two camps. Those who thinks the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a vital force in keeping alive the fading spirit of rock. And those who think it’s the epitome of everything that is killing that spirit. Of course, if you’re in the second camp, you’ve probably not bothered to even read this. And besides, ever since John Lydon called the Hall of Fame a “piss stain” when it inducted the Sex Pistols, there hasn’t really been more to say on that particular topic. So for the for the folks who do care, he’s a semi-snark free account of four hours that the rest of you will YouTube in about four minutes.

Music Easy Dub It!

May 12, 2009 - 9:20 am

esasdubbandalbumcover

I don’t particularly like Reggae. I mean, I get it, I just don’t particularly think it strikes harmony with my cold cold heart. But never-the-less the Easy Star All Stars make me re-frame my mind for it. This band brought you the musical re-incarnations of 2 of the most beloved albums of all times with their release in 2003 of Dub Side of the Moon, and in 2006 Radiodread. This month they did it again with the Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band, out on April 14th on Easy Star Records.

They have somehow managed to ride the fine line between integrity and originality, flattering the masters they pay tribute to. Its nice, and mellow, and if you decide to partake in a little recreational smoking, well I say, puff puff give. They hit the road this week, check out their schedule here!
