The line snaking outside the Cabana Club stretches nearly a full block from its starting point of a tatted Asian rocker chic with blue hair at the gate, down past a Harry Potter looking dude in jhorts, and finishes with what looks from here, a Pakistani Jesus complete with robe. This multi-cultural serpent has become a spectacle of its own in a town all too familiar with lines of lost souls outside a club, for this one is bathed in daylight on a Sunday afternoon! It even has a Twitter hashtag (#do-over-line). But don’t fret, for in exchange for your patience, your body will soon be baptized in the spirit-s: Sangria, Soul music, and most likely Somebody else. (RT @waldorules: @do_over EVEN THE SOCIALLY AWKWARD SOUND GUY IN STAR TREK T-SHIRT IS GETTING LAID AFTER THIS ONE!)

Gallery Music Pool Party 101
People-watching at the Winter Music Conference is one of the highlights of the week, and chlorinated bodies of water seem to bring out interesting behaviors. While taking in the soothing sounds of Daz-I-Kue, Alix Alvarez, Vikter Duplaix and other sun drenched DJs at the Lotus WMC 2011 Showcase, we noticed a few things happening poolside and thought we’d report back. All you people looking to hit up WMC in 2012 take note—here’s the ChinaShop guide on how to conduct yourself at a pool party. You can thank us later.
Featured Gallery Music Midnight to 666 With The Lords of Altamont
Driving to the warehouse district of downtown Los Angeles on Saturday night, I, along with half of the motorcyclists in Southern California, drove up a ramp and ended up on top of a parking garage. Walking past trashcan bonfires, taco trucks, and what appeared to at one time be someone’s living room furniture, I had arrived at Cretin’s Motorcycle Club, a sort of secret society biker’s club which happened to be the perfect setting for the Lords of Altamont CD Release/Anti-Valentine’s Day party.
Only the Lords would be capable of pulling off an evening full of stoning Valentine’s Day combined with celebrating the release of their newest album, “Midnight To 666.” The band has undergone several member changes but is confident to have its most solid line up yet, with Jake “The Preacher” Cavaliere on lead vocals and organ, John “Big Drag” Saletra on guitar, Shawn “Sonic” Medina on bass, and Harry Drumdini aka “Full Tilt” on drums. Any venue brave enough to host these rockers would have to have some serious balls.
After a photo shoot that required balancing on rooftop while grasping burning sparklers, The Lords of Altamont and their entourage of saucy go-go dancers divulged wacky tales from the road. From being electrocuted to running from the cops due to a certain ChinaShop photographer’s quest to snap the perfect photo, the Lords of Altamont know how to keep things interesting. They do, after all, have a reputation to uphold.
Gallery Music Who is Sozay?
Sozay is a rising Los Angeles rapper who aspires to step away from today’s overdone rap lyrics that cater to egos and empty messages. Striving to provide fans with meaningful rhymes packed with emotion and heart, Sozay prides himself on his ability to comfortably expose his insecurities and give people a true insight into who he really is. Considered a lyrical mastermind, Sozay isn’t afraid to push boundaries and challenge today’s hip-hop standards. He looks to rappers of the past as sources of inspiration and constantly pulls elements of these iconic performers into his music today.
With a persistent work ethic and exploding fan base, Sozay is making his mark on the rap scene. He recently released a teaser EP titled, “Who is Sozay” and his track “High Hopes” is rotating through West Coast stations. Sozay is currently putting the finishing touches on his upcoming debut “Black September” and is about to hit the road in March to share the stage with hip-hop legends, House of Pain.
On February 10th, LA guests were treated to a pre-Grammy party, featuring a special performance by Sozay. Before the guests arrived and rushed the open bars, the rapper, who is soon to be on everyone’s radar, gave ChinaShop a behind-the-scenes look at his booming career.

Gallery Music NOFX: Success Is A Drag
Legendary punks NOFX are known for pushing boundaries.
Their cutting edge documentary NOFX: Backstage Passport shocked TV viewers with their global escapades in debauchery on tour when it aired on Fuse in 2008. Earlier this year, singer Fat Mike’s alter ego Cokie The Clown got banned from Emo’s in Austin, Texas when he served what appeared to be urine-infused tequila to an audience of unsuspecting fans (it later proved to be an elaborate hoax). Now for the band’s latest exploit: NOFX dressed in full drag for their New Year’s Heave party at the Wiltern.

Event Featured Gallery Therapy With a Baseball Bat
Titmouse invited me to their annual Smashing Party and there was no way that I was going to turn down that invitation. I’ll admit, I’ve heard stories of past bashes, so I thought I knew what I was in for. When I walked through the entrance gate and was cleared by security, however, I realized that this might turn out to be a bit more extreme of an evening than I was prepared for. At the door, I was handed a waiver to sign, given an official SMASH t-shirt to add to the souvenir collection, and provided with a paper face mask to block “all the dust and debris.”
