Florence&TheMachine

Each week ChinaShop asks one of our favorite people for a mood and for songs that put them in that mood.  This week’s picks come from Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine and a most interesting mood she does choose…

Mood: Trepanning

For those of you who don’t know, trepanning, also known as trephination, or trephining is drilling or scraping a hole into the human skull … Just an FYI.  Happy Monday!

Music Nine Inch Nails : The Gift Project

January 7, 2010 - 10:55 am

NIN photo

When Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor revealed to the public that his highly anticipated multimedia project — a concert film version of the group’s groundbreaking, multimedia Lights In The Sky tour — had to be shelved, fans were understandably devastated when they learned the months-in-the-making compilation might never see the light of day. After nearly a year, it turns out that Mr. Reznor has re-strategized and come out with something much more ambitious (and interactive) than originally planned.

Music A Place to Bury Strangers

May 1, 2009 - 2:06 pm

oliverhiro

A Place to Bury Strangers are a New York-based power trio composed of Oliver Ackermann (guitar/vocals), Jono MOFO (bass) and Jay Space (drums). The band plays a heavy, atmospheric wall of sound-influenced blend of psychedelic rock, shoegaze and space rock. The band is commonly known by the initialism APTBS.

Their heavy flood of rushing sound is a little like the Jesus and Mary Chain on speed. They have opened for the N.I.N. and MGMT. A good fit for both shows as I’m sure these headliners have at one point in time or other needed a place to bury strangers. If you missed them at Coachella you can check out their sound below.
