Featured Film Fridays Music Rain or Shine We Came To Rock: Lollapalooza Day 3

August 8, 2011 - 5:02 pm

British post-punkers Arctic Monkeys managed to play a partial set to a drenched yet committed crowd after the first of two huge storms shut down outside stages on Day 3 of Lollapalooza 2011. The band delivered their catchy hits including, “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor,” and other recognizable tunes from their first two explosive albums in an energetic yet hurried set.

Arctic Monkeys at Lollapalooza 2011

Later, Foo Fighters performed a torrential two-hour finale of old and new songs on another main stage in the rain – sounding and looking stellar as always (even drenched). Lead singer/guitarist, Dave Grohl, yet again steers the Foo Fighters into becoming the most seminal American rock band of this musical era with hit after hit song and consistently brilliant headlining live performances like this one. Hence, it was fitting Foo Fighters should close this historical 20th year of Lollapalooza. As they say, it will go down in history.

LRG

Anyone can sell cloths… Well maybe not anyone, it actually seems like a fairly impacted market to me, I digress, but my point being is this, there are a lot of companies out there to sell threads, and then there is LRG.

Gallery Music COACHELLA: DAY 3 RECAP

April 20, 2011 - 1:59 pm

Friday you have boundless energy. Saturday you’re crisp from the sun and mildly hoarse, but you’ve still got your legs underneath you. Sunday, however, is when the battle is won or lost; when true heroes are made (or broken) on the grassy proving ground of the Indio desert. It’s Day Three. Do you know where you parked your car?

nkotbsb

NKOTBSB?! Mind. Blown. So NKOTB were a bit before my time, well I mean I knew girls who were obsessed with them, but at the time I was more of a Green Day girl (Dookie was one of my first albums, totes had the poster hanging up over my bed and everything; man I was a cool 8 year old…), however I was all about BSB (“I Want It That Way”, “Quit Playing Games With My Heart”?! Oh I could die. Such tunes!) so part of me is totally excited about this collaboration of ex-boyband heartthrobs. And their first single is undeniably catchy. This insanity drops May 24th.

Gil Scott Heron

We’re New Here the (insanely awesome) Jamie xx remix album of Gil Scott Heron’s I’m New Here doesn’t come out until the 21st, but the folks over at The Guardian have provided us with a full album stream this week! *Happy panda paws in the air!* I. Love. This. Album. So much.

The visual for Cee-Lo Green’s “Bodies” is not merely a music video but “an animated short motion picture,” which is kind of pretentious but as it’s Cee-Lo (and I love him) he gets a pass. The “animated short motion picture” was directed by Mikael Colombu and features appearances by Kerry Washington, Janelle Monae and Karl Lagerfeld. Bam. It’s an… interesting piece for sure, though the song isn’t my favorite off the album. Check it out below.

Social Media Tweet Like the Stars (or Learn From Celebrity Mistakes) – Social Media Week Day 3

February 16, 2011 - 8:07 am

Tweet Like the Stars panel

Who would’ve thought that a panel about celebrity tweeting would’ve been so intelligent? When I first saw the description of this panel, I thought it would be a bit of fluff. However, when you put together a panel of people who are not only pop culture reporters, but true journalists, you realize that there’s a lot more going on than just who’s sleeping with whom. (Though there’s plenty of that, too).

At the Tweet Like the Stars: Celebrities Using Social Media to Successfully Build Their Brands panel at Red Bull Space, BuzzMedia organized a panel of well-respected editors and columnists from both print and online entertainment news sources: Mike Hess (Celebuzz), Eloise Parker (OK! Magazine), Bonnie Fuller (Hollywood Life), Rob Shuter (PopEater), moderated by Mike Porath, SVP of Programming at BuzzMedia. They managed to not only successfully examine how celebrities are using social media to build their brands, but also translate how those same techniques could be applied to themselves and to businesses that have nothing to do with entertainment.
