Comic Books Comic-Con 2010: The Dark Horse Panel Gives a Peek at Upcoming Stuff: Gerard Way, Mike Mignola, Tim Truman, and Randy Stradley

Last but not least in our Comic-Con coverage: a quick look at upcoming events and goings-on with Dark Horse in the coming year (or two): A new series with Mike Mignola — the mastermind behind Hellboy — called Baltimore, which he’ll be working on with Ben Stenbeck. The brains at DH are also premiering some motion comics versions of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and Conan the Cimmerian. If you’ve never seen motion comics, they’re basically the raw original version of an online comic, only certain parts of the body are animated, and a voice-over track/score are added. It’s a tricky process that’s sometimes a crapshoot, but can also add a little bit of depth to what was otherwise just another comic.

Comic Books Evan Dorkin – Beasts of Burden, The Mask, Predator

Evan Dorkin is probably best known for his underground hit ‘Milk & Cheese’, but he’s been doing work for Dark Horse Comics since the early 90′s and has even penned a strange ‘Hellboy’ tale. His recent collaboration with famous water-colorist Jill Thompson on ‘Beasts of Burden’ has earned him nothing short of absolute praise, and garnered the creative team several industry awards including an Eisner. The hardcover collection of ‘Beasts of Burden’ is set to be released this August.

Comic Books Ben Stenbeck – Witchfinder, Baltimore

Ben StenbeckBen Stenbeck is an established illustrator from New Zealand who first starting working with Dark Horse on President Mike Richardson’s series ‘Living with the Dead’. Since then, Stenbeck has gone on to work with ‘Hellboy’ creator Mike Mignola on ‘B.P.R.D.’ and the series ‘Witchfinder’. This fall he teams up with Mignola again, and novelist Christopher Golden, on ‘Baltimore’.

Comic Books Christopher Golden – Baltimore, Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Christopher Golden is best known for his novel ‘Baltimore, or The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire’ which featured illustrations from ‘Hellboy’ creator Mike Mignola. Golden was also the writer of several of the ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ comics before Joss Whedon took over duties for ‘Season Eight’. Already an accomplished author of several sci-fi and fantasy novel, his creator-owned series ‘Baltimore’, based on his original novel, is scheduled for release this fall.

Comic Books Dean Motter – Mister X, Electropolis

Dean Motter is the legendary designer, illustrator, and writer most known for his masterpiece ‘Mister X Archives’ that launched the careers of other famous creators like Jaime Hernandez and Dave McKean.  The collection, a fusion of Art Deco, German Expressionism and Film Noir, recently won Print magazine’s Regional Design Award and the PubWest Award. Motter has since released ‘Mister X: Condemned’ which continues to explore the philosophy of psychetecture – the idea that a city’s layout can influence its citizen’s emotional state – through antique futurism. His work is currently on exhibit at The Cité in Paris along side original art from Windsor McCay’s ‘Little Nemo’.

Guy Davis

Guy Davis is the celebrated artist of ‘B.P.R.D.’ and the creator of the haunting black-and-white graphic novel ‘The Marquis’, which ‘Hellboy’ creator Mike Mignola called, “beautiful, smart, and very disturbing.” Last year, Davis won the coveted Eisner Award for Best Penciller & Inker in the industry. To date, Davis has drawn nearly one hundred issues for Dark Horse Comics.
