Gallery Los Angeles In Line For A “Do Over”

August 16, 2011 - 8:46 am

The line snaking outside the Cabana Club stretches nearly a full block from its starting point of a tatted Asian rocker chic with blue hair at the gate, down past a Harry Potter looking dude in jhorts, and finishes with what looks from here, a Pakistani Jesus complete with robe. This multi-cultural serpent has become a spectacle of its own in a town all too familiar with lines of lost souls outside a club, for this one is bathed in daylight on a Sunday afternoon! It even has a Twitter hashtag (#do-over-line). But don’t fret, for in exchange for your patience, your body will soon be baptized in the spirit-s: Sangria, Soul music, and most likely Somebody else. (RT @waldorules: @do_over EVEN THE SOCIALLY AWKWARD SOUND GUY IN STAR TREK T-SHIRT IS GETTING LAID AFTER THIS ONE!)

Classic Glamour Dolls

When you have a big event coming up and you are female, it’s inevitable that you want your hair and make-up professionally done.  It just perfectly accents a night out on the town, a wedding, a red carpet ordeal, a high school reunion, or any situation where the goal is to shock and awe with your looks.  One thing to consider is that when you hire hair and make-up people, they are in your house for a long time.  I got my hair and make-up done for my wedding and spent a good 3 and a half hours bonding with my lady.  She was nice, but there wasn’t anything unique about her and I found myself resorting to the ‘go to’ questions: Isn’t the weather nice?  Where are you from?  How long have you been doing make-up?  We got through it, but there were a lot of moments when the concept of ‘silence is golden’ keep fluttering into my head.

I recently stumbled upon the perfect solution to my quest for make-up/hair artists with finesse, the Classic Glamour Dolls.  Specializing in preparing you for everything from photo shoots, to performances, red carpet appearances, film, bachelor/bachelorette parties, birthdays, and special events, the Classic Glamour Doll “Team” consists of a group of make-up and hair artists whose motto is to bring you “Make-up and hair with a Hollywood flair.”  The gals live out the 1920’s to 1950’s glam eras and show up to get their clients event-ready fully decked out in an old school Hollywood get-up that Fergie would describe as the definition of G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S.  When I witnessed them in action, they explained to me that the look must always include: red lipstick, fake eyelashes, cat eyeliner, flowers or big jewels in the hair, very clean and shapely defined eyebrows, and a victory roll in their hair – obtained with hot rollers, curling irons, lots of hair spray and “thousands and thousands of bobby pins,” and of course fun rockabilly-inspired clothing.

Event 2010: A look at Things to Come

January 12, 2010 - 10:43 am

LMFAO

Still nursing that hangover? Take another swig of recovery beer and dry your cryin’ eyes, my friends–2010 looks is already looking bloated as hell, with a laundry list of various music, events, shows, and assorted craziness. We’re going to be covering some new events here, going in a different direction there… from the kitsch to the kinky, though, we’ll have it all, or as much as you think you can handle. As for what else we’ve done…we figure, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. 2009 turned out awesome for ChinaShop, so we wanted to take some time to a)thank you guys for reading and b) let you know that we’re just getting started.

We plan to keep covering up-and-coming bands (that rock), concerts, and just generally all the weird stuff we think you’d dig. We’re also gonna be looking more into comics, branching out into new kinds of music, and the latest in the gaming industry–only better. Coming up we’ll have our usual coverage on SXSW, Gala’s take on the latest in the world of fashion, Dustin Downing’s psychotic brand of photography, and some new stuff like The Black Dahlia Murder Tour, The Hollywood Erotic Museum, and it only gets weirder from there. Chances are, if it looks interesting enough, weird enough, perverse enough, funny enough– we’re gonna be there.

A big hail for all your comments and feedback — don’t know about you guys, we’ve been turned on to a lot of great different music just by taking a chance, and judging from your it sounds like a lot of you have as well.
