Hanna

The soundtrack for the film “Hanna” (side note: really want to see it), scored by the Chemical Brothers, was released exclusively through iTunes last month, but I only got around to checking it out this week (and it subsequently became my unofficial soundtrack; listened to it constantly). If you haven’t given it a listen / downloaded it yet, I highly recommend doing so because it’s awesome. Favorite tracks are: “Hanna’s Theme”; “Container Park” and “Escape 700”. Grab it here and / or watch the trailer after the jump.

Broken Bells 2011

Well it’s a gorgeous, sunny day in lovely London and I’m a bit horse from an epic karaoke session last night with some of my favorites; we sang everything from “Regulate” by Warren G and Nate Dogg, Pulp’s “Common People”, to “A Whole New World” from Aladdin (oh, yes). Was never a real big karaoke girl until I started dating the boy; 2 ½ years later and I’ve officially caught the bug. Round two tonight (thanks to an at-home set! Wooo!), but before that, let’s get to this week’s music news!

Broken Bells, the magical collaboration of Danger Mouse and James Mercer, are releasing a new EP, Meyrin Fields, slated for a March 29th release which will feature three unreleased songs as well as “An Easy Life” (off the iTunes bonus edition of their debut album).  Check the track list after the jump.

Music DOOM – Super Hero Lyricism

As mainstream rappers continue to spew couplets about how much swag they’ve accrued and how many shiny gems they can fit into their Franck Muller watches, the reclusive and prolific Doom has gone ahead and dropped the best hip-hop album this year – the aptly titled Born Like This. The new LP is a masterpiece any way you look at it; from the selection of exceptional producers (J Dilla, Jake One, Thom Yorke) to the sharp collection of wordsmiths assembled (Wu-Tang’s Raekwon and Ghostface, Freddie Foxxx, Kurious Jorge). But above all, it’s the Metal-Faced Villain’s amazing, choppy delivery, Ginsu-sharp diction and unrivaled imagination that make his latest opus a certified classic.

Music Joker’s Daughter – She’s Laughing at YOU

In 2003, she began mailing her home recordings to the esteemed artist and producer Danger Mouse. As his international fame grew, the pair kept in touch. They discovered a natural affinity and decided to collaborate, naming their project Joker’s Daughter after one of Helena’s many porous artistic personae. Helena describes Joker’s Daughter as “a dualistic character” who “draws from the serious to turn it into humor.”

Helena’s striking melodies and rich, sensory lyrics reveal the depth, passion and prankishness in her psyche. Danger Mouse collaborates fully at every stage, contributing his farsighted skills as a songwriter, producer and musician. The result is an intoxicating, disorienting blend, folk music from some strange, timeless, uncharted dream world.
