On Saturday, the Bergamot Station Arts Complex flooded with heavy foot traffic headed straight for Copro Nason Gallery, where strange sea creatures, aliens, robots and mutants anxiously waited on the walls and floor displays. It was opening night for the second installment of Chet Zar’s Conjoined, The Sequel – In 3D exhibit, and the art-hungry masses were fired up.

Sketch Theatre‘s mission is simple: to inspire artists through videos of established professionals doing what they do best, sped up and set to music. There is something incredibly inspiring and reassuring in watching the creative process, watching blank paper and graphite become jagged lines that grow into something else entirely. It lets us watch and learn, step by step, realizing that, yes, it is all possible with enough practice and dedication.

Conjoined is a collection of work from the cream of the pop surrealism and lowbrow crops, alongside rare work by renowned special effects creators, some of whom have never exhibited in a gallery setting before.

Last Thursday, Gallery 1988 in Hollywood hosted the reception for The Ghost of Delilah and Other Stories – an unprecedented group show curated by NYC’s Travis Louie. Travis, known for his sepia-toned, photo-realistic depictions of monsters and fantasy creatures, invited artists to collaborate with him on a series of drawings, featured in the show alongside his paintings.
