Since waking from a fateful dream in 2008, miss Slinky Orangina Montgomery Vaughn-Phuckake has been constructing fantasy hats, fascinators and headdresses. Bright, sparkly and whimsical, these unique adornments gained instant momentum – that’s how Bubbles and Frown Haberdashery Shoppe was born. Slinky Orangina has created a breathtaking body of work, decorating the heads of models, performers, fashionistas and celebrities worldwide. I visited the citrus-tressed designer in her downtown LA showroom to chat about hats and snap some photos of her latest creations.

Music Jane’s Addiction Unleash “Theatre of the Escapists”

January 11, 2012 - 11:22 am

From the beginning, Jane’s Addiction has thrown the most unique parties in rock, mixing a fierce musicality with theatrical flair onstage. 2012 sees the band–who’ve always outrageously combined electricity, sex and danger–return in support of their acclaimed album The Great Escape Artist (Capitol Records), which features the now-buzzing-at-radio track “Underground.” Starting February 22, this special run of North American shows—called “Theatre of the Escapists”–will bring the band to intimate venues, most of which are classic theatres. The alternative rock pioneers–frontman Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins, along with Chris Chaney on bass—are poised to deliver an immersive theatrical experience as only they can. Tickets go on sale January 14, with a pre-sale set for 10:00 EST this Wednesday, January 11. There will be a special package on JanesAddiction.com where fans can pair up their presale ticket with a high-quality lithograph. The lithograph will be signed by the band and sold only at the JanesAddiction.com presale.

Film Fridays If Movie Posters Told the Truth; Stephen King Gets Film Anthology; and ‘Akira’ Dies a Horrible Death (We Hope)

January 6, 2012 - 4:17 pm

Movie posters are pretty much all lies. And most of the time, they’re better than the actual film they’re promoting. But theshiznit, who have taken the gist of some of the latest and most popular films to come out, make a good point — given the level of hate aimed at Sarah Jessica Parker, one can’t help but wonder exactly how she keeps getting roles. And Drive, as awesome as it was, is a kind of just like an awesome video game.
