Tumbler Reaches Out

No, Bruce Springsteen and Willie Nelson have not taken over Radio City Music Hall… and George Clooney has yet to collect Hollywood’s elite for a chic televised fund raiser that gives them uber street cred… According to media outlets, The BP disaster that has devastated the Gulf Coast is so horrific that we will be dealing with the repercussions for decades. Hundreds out of jobs, animals sick and dying. Kim Kardashian was recently under intense fire from PETA for a photo she tweeted picking up a kitten by the excess skin on the back of it’s neck – yet their lack of anger towards BP and the heartbreaking photos of sea life drenched in black muck has received far less attention.

Uncategorized Aardvarck

May 14, 2010 - 11:35 am

Aardvarck says ahhhh

If Flying Lotus reveres John Coltrane, then Aardvarck has clearly built a shrine to several jazz legends of old, placed it next to his turntables, and isn’t afraid to worship it live while he does his dirty work. Interspersed between ambient and classic rhythms of Coltrane and other jazz greats (is that Weather Report?!) is a cadence of claps and stomp-worthy beats, all provided by the man isn’t afraid to experiment with a variety of different rhythms, and crank the subwoofer up in his quest for the ultimate thunder. Wisely Aardvarck lets the rhythms and beats do most of the talking and keeps the other jazz bits, especially some of the more dated material, to a minimum. It’s worth checking out right now on Red Bull Music Academy Radio.

J Crew Fall 2010 Presentation

But I am so inspired by J. Crew right now!

I always thought of J. Crew as the domain of the tennis & cocktail hour set: people with names like Binty and Muffy and Todd, who use the word “sloop” much more often than most of us, and somehow never get grass stains on their immaculate khakis despite spending 97% of their time in a grassy setting.

Unbelievably, their creative director, Jenna Lyons, is changing my mind. Now I’m starting to see it as a place to get excellent pieces which contrast so well with a more rock and roll or high fashion wardrobe.
