Orange County’s very own The Slidebar, Old Shoe Records, and us kids here at le ChinaShopMag decided we were done ice picking our ears to all the broken heart Owl City crap emanating from the stage at most showcases during that four letter word of a music festival this time a year in the ATX. And we’re damn sure we wanted to save you crazy kids out there in Rock n Roll land from paying $7 billion doll hairs for a name tag with a lanyard that you would probably end up hanging yourself with whilst waiting in line for the all day Brian Mcfadden showcase sponsored by Kotex. So, to save you dough but mostly you’re soul, we threw down our damn selves at Darwinís Pub on dirty 6th Street with a little help from out friends.

Gallery Music The Dark Side of SXSW with The Black Angels and Metalachi
There are some bands you know you’ve always wanted to hear. When people discuss their live shows, you shyly admit you’ve never seen them and make a serious mental note. Well, that is what the Black Angels have been to me for years. They hail from Austin, have been around for years and roll heavy with instruments. The five piece psychedelic outfit has always been lauded as an amazing live act.
Featured Gallery Music Converse and The Fader Fort Keep SX Colorful
One of the biggest and most coveted venues to break into in the past few years at Austin’s SXSW Music Festival as been The Fader Fort sponsored by Converse. For four days the fenced off field was alive with thousands of people jamming out to a diverse line up of live music that included Santigold, Kimbra, Gary Clark Jr., Zola Jesus, and Rick Ross. When they weren’t busy concerting they could be found hanging out on AstroTurf grassy knolls, playing ping pong, and drawing on the walls of the Converse Welcome Lounge.
Fashion Gallery Skingraft’s Shadow Warriors at LAFW
Historic Vibiana cathedral’s participation in Los Angeles Fashion Week was perfectly surreal. The majestic Baroque building has towered over downtown LA since the 1800s, becoming an event venue in the early 2000s. Yes, perfectly surreal and just perfect for showcasing Skingraft‘s monumental Winter 2012 line.
Gallery Music Joe Sib’s Bare Bones Laugh Riot
Joe Sib’s Bare Bones Show at the Laugh Factory is currently the best little secret in town. The show is that one plastered across that huge billboard spotted when driving west down Sunset, on the East-facing side of the Laugh Factory building at Laurel and Sunset. The billboard is unavoidable. A giant microphone wears a denim jacket with punk rock badges.
The Bare Bones Show is a live grab bag variety night where music meets comedy, and heavy-hitter big names pop in for surprise sets. At last week’s show, Daniel Tosh made a cameo on stage, and Dane Cook jumped on stage for an unannounced set of gags. The month before, surprise guest Aziz Ansari (Parks And Recreation) did 40 minutes of new material for the delighted crowd. Bobby Lee has been known to stop in as well. Bare Bones musical guests have varied from Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme, Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba, Brazil’s Brothers Of Brazil, Dead Sara, and even The Police’s Andy Summers.
Featured Gallery Music Keane Bring “Strangeland” To Red Bull Sound Space
Keane kicked off their recent Red Bull Sound Space performance with KROQ’s Stryker asking vocalist Tom Chaplin how playing in the intimate Sound Space compared to the band’s 2011 performance on the Great Wall of China. “It’s very different. Not quite as big but still impressive,” explained Chaplin. Stryker asked if “big was still impressive” to which Chaplin replied, “That’s what my wife tells me. I don’t know what that means.” “Yes. Yes you do!” Stryker quipped, quickly changing the subject. The interview continued with Chaplin explaining the band’s recent lull as a means for Keane to take some time off and “write the best record ever.”
Fashion Featured Gallery Project Ethos Brings Fashion, Music, and Art Together
You can always expect clothes at Fashion Week in Los Angeles. It’s the week where fashionistas flock from one runway show to another, watching the next wave of “what’s in” strut down the catwalk. While we love fashion, we are also partial to music and art. Project Ethos makes it their mission to combine all three.

Featured Gallery Music Living Life and Enjoying Friends with Greylag
There are just some bands who know how to do it right and Greylag is one of them. There was no line to get in to their show, no RSVP weeks in advance. Yet after talking with them I realized that this is (or should be) what the heart of SXSW is all about. Not stroking the already famous egos, getting free stuff or hanging at the place with the biggest light installation, but discovering new talent. Getting into music. This was Greylags first SXSW appearance. Drawing from bluegrass, rock n roll and soul as inspiration, Daniel Dixon and Andrew Stonestreet are just beginning on their endeavor together as Greylag.
We had a chance to talk with the duo under the heat of the SX sun and the following is what they had to say. Read the Interview after the jump.

Favored by pop icons worldwide, Tod and Giuliana have outfitted Steven Tyler, Nikki Sixx, Alice Cooper, Jenna Jameson, Tommy Lee, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Vince Neil and Dimmu Borgir, to name a few.
