Featured Music Emika: Bass Is Maternal

November 17, 2011 - 9:13 am

What is it with girls and their bottom end? It’s not something I muse upon often, but every once in a while a member of the fairer sex comes along that makes me rethink my appreciation of tone, presence and overall bounceability. And no, I’m not talking about the posterior. I’m talking about bass. Specifically, bass crafted by Ninja Tune’s newest female export, Emika.

From the very first track, you could tell she was onto something new; something sultry yet smart. We caught up with Emika backstage at her Los Angeles date to find out how her new album came to be, and what’s on tap for 2013.

Featured Gallery Music Jail, Redemption and Falling in Reverse

November 11, 2011 - 11:28 am

Ronnie Radke has some very loyal fans. The former Escape The Fate frontman told KROQ DJs during this week’s Red Bull Sound Space performance that he was shocked that his fans waited patiently while he finished out a 2 ½ year prison sentence. While landing some time in the slammer isn’t exactly a preferred stop along the path of life, Ronnie made the best of it. As he finished up his sentence, he received hoards of letters from his many admirers, which prompted him to seriously reflect upon his life, past addictions, and goals for the future. Thoughts became lyrics and lyrics turned into songs and ultimately material for Ronnie’s novel musical endeavor, Falling in Reverse.

Fashion Featured Where Sugar Meets Art

November 11, 2011 - 10:52 am

Since I’m infatuated with Timmery Turner every way sexually, mentally, etc. Allow me to first profess my lust for her since I refuse to send her a letter filled with naughty nothings VIA Facebook. “I’m sure that she gets a lot of that.” She embodies everything that I would want to take home to my mother. She’s aggressive, determined, hot, fascinating I could go on and on, but I won’t because this is not a racy novel that you purchase in the check out line at Walmart. She states herself that “If there’s one thing in life that trumps my obsession for stilettos, its my obsession for good looking men.” Well, since I was grafted by God personally in heaven 29 years ago where only ridiculously beautiful men are born, I’d like to think I have a chance with Timmery.

It was a fair-ish event with food trucks, the requisite photo booth live-screen painting by local shirt shop Hit+Run, and a bike valet. Local dublab DJ’s spun to the outdoor crowd while names like Take aka Sweatson Klank, Julia Holter, Gaslamp Killer, & Daedelus kept the hipster crowd’s moccasin covered toes a tapping.. A mini-film fest and a #hellofanidea popcorn booth tied for second on the billing. Kutmah was to be beamed in live from the NTS Radio Studio in London but somebody forgot to set their alarm.

Featured Gallery Music Why Is This Man Smiling? The Smashing Pumpkins Go Big

November 2, 2011 - 12:02 pm

For the past two years, Billy Corgan has been dribbling out songs online—some as individual tracks, some grouped together in small EPs—as part of a massive, 44-song magnum opus called Teargarden By Kaleidyscope. Loosely based around Corgan’s interpretation of The Fool’s Journey in the Tarot, he described the project as a return to the Smashing Pumpkins’ psychedelic roots. If you’ve spent seven minutes rocking out to his epic 2008 jam “Superchrist,” you know that an unfettered and experimental Billy is exactly the kind of Billy you want pumping out records on a regular basis.
