Art/Design Twin Atlantic Breaks the Skin

Twin Atlantic Gets Tattooed

Sam McTrusty looks nauseous. He’s about to commit an act that is essentially irreversible and permanent. The lead singer for rock band Twin Atlantic has burned a lot of brain cells contemplating this tattoo and the final verdict…a triangle. That’s right, one solitary triangle on the wrist. Its entirely loaded with meaning, and yet a basic shape that every child 2 and up can identify.

And that’s the beauty and the art of the tattoo. At its best it should mean the most to the one who wears it. Its so personal as a form of expression that it should be thought through and slept on for many many moons. Sam wanted to remember this place and time, and the triangle is a powerful symbol throughout history. It stands for the symbol for god, or the trinity, for power, danger, math, astrology and so much more. Those three little lines are loaded.

Brooklyn's Ad Hoc Gallery

Alison Buxton, the co-owner of Brooklyn’s Ad Hoc gallery is perhaps the nicest, most open-minded, welcoming person you’ll ever meet. Her gallery business card lists her as “Co-founder, Cat Wrangler and Problem Solver,” and one can only imagine her handling these duties with love and the utmost of human respect. In that light, there couldn’t have been a better venue than her avant-garde gallery for two great heroes of Graffiti culture, Daze & Crash, to show their latest collaborative retrospective.

Twin Atlantic Get L.A. Tattoos

The truest way to set a memory is to mix it with a little of both pleasure and pain. Scottish rock band, Twin Atlantic, broke virgin skin in the service of remembering their time recording in Los Angeles. For singer Sam, and drummer Craig, it was their very first tattoo. Bass player Ross already has a few mementos of his own from previous encounters with inkslingers abroad. While Guitarist, Barry, just watched it all unfold.

Art/Design Featured Gallery Downtown LA Art Walk

June 1, 2009 - 8:50 am

Walking in LA is so inconvenient that the act itself is actually exoticized. City planning and a lagging public transit system are to blame, with neighborhoods divided by uninviting stretches of freeways, industrial compounds and mini-malls. With cultural epicenters scattered between Silverlake, Hollywood, downtown, and the West side, any activity that allows for leaving one’s wheeled transport pod and interacting with other humans is a rare and welcome event.

Art/Design Gallery Global Inheritance 18 & Up

April 29, 2009 - 7:59 am

Global Inheritance’s exhibits are pretty much an expected staple each year at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. For the past 6 years (out of the 10 that Coachella has been running) G.I. has had a presence, and hopefully has made an impact on its viewers. Dedicated to making activism hip for the next generation to embrace, this non-profit didn’t disappoint.

This year they showed their creativity with the 18 & Up exhibit. 18 & Up being a tongue in cheek reference to golf of course, as they took 7 re-claimed golf carts and re-engineered them to run on alternative forms of energy. Various artists then suped them up paying homage to performers who were in some way involved with this years line up.
