The Mint Museum will once again break new ground by bringing together three exhibitions comprising the largest and most significant examination of Surrealism and Surrealist-inspired art ever presented in the Southeast. Surrealism and Beyond opens to the public at Mint Museum Uptown on February 11 and runs through May 13.
The time has come for Santa Barbara, CA based Rebelution to release their much-anticipated third studio album, Peace Of Mind, through their own label 87 Music. The label, in partnership with Controlled Substance Sound Labs, is simultaneously releasing two additional versions of the entire record as a multi-length triple album. Peace of Mind: Acoustic will feature all twelve original album tracks stripped down acoustic as well as Peace of Mind: Dub remixed by Easy Star’s Michael Goldwasser (Dub Side of The Moon, Radiodread, Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band). From the beginning, Jane’s Addiction has thrown the most unique parties in rock, mixing a fierce musicality with theatrical flair onstage. 2012 sees the band–who’ve always outrageously combined electricity, sex and danger–return in support of their acclaimed album The Great Escape Artist (Capitol Records), which features the now-buzzing-at-radio track “Underground.” Starting February 22, this special run of North American shows—called “Theatre of the Escapists”–will bring the band to intimate venues, most of which are classic theatres. The alternative rock pioneers–frontman Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins, along with Chris Chaney on bass—are poised to deliver an immersive theatrical experience as only they can. Tickets go on sale January 14, with a pre-sale set for 10:00 EST this Wednesday, January 11. If you’ve been making the rounds through the New York City club scene—or regularly attend VIP velvet rope parties on either coast—you know who Jesse Marco is. The 22-year-old DJ has been hard at work in the studio putting the finishing touches on his new single, “Daddy Cool.”
“The Year of the Doors” officially kicks off on Monday, January 9 at noon Eastern when the iconic rock band will officially debut the first new, completely unreleased song in 40 years, “She Smells So Nice.” The bluesy track captures the band–organist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, drummer John Densmore and late singer Jim Morrison–joyfully barreling through the full-throttle original. Bruce Botnick, the album’s co-producer with the band, recently made the discovery while reviewing the L.A. WOMAN session tapes. The song will premiere on the band’s Facebook page on Monday and will then be serviced to radio the following day.
