Film Fridays Cinema’s Top 5 Underrated Female Villains

5. Varla – Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill! Tura Satana does what every great villain (or hero) should: race fast vintage cars, pummel yuppie scum, and expose voluminous amounts of cleavage. Damn. She’ll slip your gf a roofie and rob your wheelchair-bound dad without a second thought.
Music Revolutions in Sound… The London Eye Experiment
1 night, 30 gigs, 30 live streams, this is one hell of a big idea… For one night only, the iconic London Eye turns into a revolving musical celebration of epic scale. Imagine the worlds fanciest ferris wheel with each “pod” hosting a dj / live act and 30 persons raging to the music while revolving along side the historic Thames River… and not just any act, the most progressive, revolutionary, innovative artists that Red Bull Music Academy consistantly sources and supports… Imagine Scream and Benga’s pod pulsating and rocking with every kick pulse, I hope they tightened the screws (yikes!), Oh, and down below the silent dance party continues… what? wait? silent dance party? let me explain… it’s not really silent, the dancing people below can tune into which ever live streaming pod their little heart desires. But enough out of me, watch the below video to see for yourself.

Music Sharon Van Etten’s Latest ‘Tramp’ on The Horizon Plus New Tour Dates
Sharon Van Etten is delighted to share news of Tramp, her stunning Jagjaguwar debut album, out February 7, and the follow up to last year’s epic (Ba Da Bing). Tramp showcases an artist in full control of her powers. With her third album, Van Etten’s words and voice are now two parts of a larger evocative whole.
The shimmering sound of Tramp both defies and illuminates the unsteadiness of a life in flux. Throughout the 14 months of scattered recording sessions, Van Etten was without a home — crashing with friends and storing her possessions between varied locations. The only constant in Van Etten’s life during this time was spent in the garage studio of The National’s Aaron Dessner.
Featured Music Emika: Bass Is Maternal
What is it with girls and their bottom end? It’s not something I muse upon often, but every once in a while a member of the fairer sex comes along that makes me rethink my appreciation of tone, presence and overall bounceability. And no, I’m not talking about the posterior. I’m talking about bass. Specifically, bass crafted by Ninja Tune’s newest female export, Emika.
Last month, she dropped her self-titled debut album amidst a teeth-rattling tour with labelmates Amon Tobin and Eskmo. From the very first track, you could tell she was onto something new; something sultry yet smart. We caught up with Emika backstage at her Los Angeles date to find out how her new album came to be, and what’s on tap for 2013.

Music ChinaShop Presents ROCK: The Lonely Drunks Club Band
According to Zak St. John, of The Lonely Drunks Club Band, putting together the lineup for each of his band’s shows is a very scientific process. “It’s kind of like a math problem each week. We have a spreadsheet I created called “The Grid. This grid has all of our songs listed on it that correlates with each instrument and who is singing. I then email and call everybody and see who is available for each week and fill in the blanks.”
Composed of some of the best musicians from the local LA scene, The Lonely Drunks Club Band is known for bestowing their rowdy rock cover songs upon The Sunset Strip. The band stands to prove that when you fill a stage with top-notch players, the evening is far from dull. Past Lonely Drunks Club shows have included guest appearances from A-list musicians including members of Alice and Chains and Alice Cooper’s band.
If you haven’t had a chance to see these guys in action, make sure to check them out at Friday’s ChinaShop Presents: Rock at the Viper Room.
