Film Fridays David Lynch’s Masterpiece, 25 Years Later: Ranting and Fun Facts in a Tribute to ‘Blue Velvet’
This week marks the official 25th anniversary of what many believe to be David Lynch’s cinematic magnum opus — yes, even more than Eraserhead and Mulholland Drive — so being as there’s no other real movie news today, grab your oxygen tank and crank up the Roy Orbison. It’s time to hit the f*ckin road back in time and celebrate what is both one of the most hated and beloved movies in the entire history of cinema.

Fashion Gallery Chasing Gin with Fashion (and Cupcakes) at FNO
Fashion’s Night Out in NYC is an annual excuse to drop everything you’re doing, put on your absolute FINEST garb and go discover whats gonna be good in fashion for the next year while sipping cocktails and snacking on treats. While the masses forced their way through crowds and broke their heels on the cobblestones of the main streets in Soho, I was lucky enough to wiggle my way into the FNO afterparty at Red Bull Space. Since when did FNO become more about chasing free drinks than appreciating good fashion? Let’s get back to the roots, ya’ll.

Music Serenading the Shrine: Bon Iver
During Bon Iver’s show at downtown L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium, the band’s creative force, Justin Vernon, shot a heartfelt glance out towards a sold out audience and proclaimed that this was the biggest show the band had ever played. In shock over every single seat in the house being filled, Vernon told his army of loyal followers that, “It would be far weirder if we were up here sweating it out by ourselves with no one here.”
Art Music Legends Become Fine Artists at Beverly Hills Gallery Exhibit
RZA’s canvas sits on the wall facing a display case full of original Picasso plates. Chuck D’s takes its place beside Salvador Dali’s celebrated Surrealist Piano sculpture. The Art Of Drums collection occupies the interior wing across from the Marilyn Monroe prints. This is the world-famous Andrew Weiss Gallery in Beverly Hills, home to “Come Together,” a two-month exhibition of the artwork of Los Angeles creativity house SceneFour and its iconic collaborators: RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, Chuck D of Public Enemy, Bootsy Collins of Bootsy’s Rubber Band, P-Funk and the JBs, Hieroglyphics Crew, DJ Qbert, Shavo Odadjian from System of a Down, George Lynch, Matt Sorum from Velvet Revolver/Guns N Roses, Frankie “Kash” Waddy from Parliament-Funkadelic, Angelo Moore of Fishbone and Page Hamilton of Helmet. With the help of their legendary friends, SceneFour partners Ravi Dosaj and Cory Danziger are spearheading a new movement in the art world: collaborative art. And based upon the September 14th opening night party, a kick-off to the exhibit which runs until November 1 at Andrew Weiss Gallery in Beverly Hills, the exhibition is set to be a blockbuster.
Film Is “Drive” Epic? (Film Review)
If you’ve given up on film being an art—which I know you have, even with the release of films like “Blue Valentine” (starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams) and “Hannah” (starring Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett)—you must see “Drive” starring Ryan Gosling again, Carey Mulligan and Albert Brooks. We’re not kidding. If you don’t see this, your friends will negate your whole view on film, and we all know how important peer approval is, right?

Gallery Music Rock’s Next Generation : School of Rock
While bouncing around and checking out live shows in Los Angeles, I caught wind of a School of Rock concert. It was explained to me as: “The house band from the School of Rock North Hollywood is performing and the kids are really good.” I have to admit, I was thinking middle school talent show and cute little kids playing off-key instruments but boy was I wrong…
