Yesterday Chidera Anamege aka “Chiddy” of Chiddy Bang, broke the world record for longest freestyle as he rapped for over 9 hours straight…!! The previous record was held by M-Eighty at 8 hours, fifteen minutes and 15 seconds. I don’t think I could even talk for 9 hours straight, much less rap. Good thing he had wings. Be sure to check back to www.redbullusa.com for a free download of Chiddy Bang’s newest single “Mind Your Manners”!
So husband and wife to be due, Karmin are kind of amazing. A few weeks ago they became a viral sensation of sorts with their cover of Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now” (which they performed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show – side note: love Ellen) and are back again this week, this time with their cover of Lil Wayne and Cory Gunz’s “6 Foot 7 Foot”. Amy is pretty much my hero du jour. Check out the video for “6 Foot 7 Foot” below and I’m sure you’ll understand why.
After being chased by virtually everyone in the industry, Odd Future have finally signed with RED Distribution / Sony Music. Per a statement from Chris Clancy, their manager:
“It’s based on getting the distribution deal we’ve always envisioned that allows the group to “sign themselves” to their own company and keep their masters. They will have 100% creative control of all aspects of their music, art, and release schedule with no 3rd party participation in outside business. Freedom and ownership was the whole point. Red and Sony know that its in everyone’s best interest to maintain the group’s authenticity and control. They built it, they deserve it. There’s no cheesy hooks or fluorescent liquor product placements in the works… It’s about to be fun… and different… “
In her video for “Sadness is a Blessing” Lykke Li does what I imagine most people have wanted to do at some point in their life when at an uncomfortable dinner in a fancy restaurant (I know I have): down shots and dance around. Hero. Check out the Tarik Saleh directed video below which also features fellow Swede, actor Stellan Skarsgård.
Lollapolooza’s lineup was announced this week and it’s insane; covering everything from hip hop, electro, indie rock, alt rock and all those in between. Headlining the August 5 – 7 Chicago festival will be: Eminem, Foo Fighters, Coldplay and Muse. For the complete lineup and more information on the festival, head on over here: http://www.lollapalooza.com/
The video for, probably my favorite song off of Lupe Fiasco’s Lasers, politically charged “Word’s I Never Said” (ft. Skylar Grey) is, unsurprisingly, quite powerful. Directed by Sanna Hamri, the video intersperses clips of the rapper portraying a “liberator fighting injustice” with footage from 9/11, the Gaza Strip and Lupe in prison. Needless to say, it’s quite intense. Watch below.

This week, Warren G released “This Is Dedicated To You” featuring LaToiya Williams, a tribute to his good friend, the late Nate Dogg. Following this, Warren announced he is currently working on an EP in honor of Nate, set to release this summer, which already features contributions from Game, B.o.B, DJ Quick, amongst others. Really looking forward to hearing it. Stream and/or download “This Is Dedicated To You” below.
