Phoenix, AZ (April 8, 2011) — Last night, over 1100 locals packed into The Venue Scottsdale to support some of Phoenix’s top DJ’s competing at Red Bull Thre3Style. The unique format highlighted the eight DJs’ raw talent and passion as they performed to impress the judges and a very vocal and lively crowd. After a long deliberation by the three judges, M2 was named the winner. Coming in second place was Astonish, and in a close third was Circle. M2 is one step closer to making it to the National Finals in Las Vegas as he now has an opportunity to be one of three West Coast qualifying DJs vying for the two open regional spots. The winning DJ from Las Vegas will earn a position to compete at the International Finals in Vancouver, B.C.
Competing DJs included Epidemic, Circle, Robby Rob, Astonish, M2, Pickster One, Death to the Throne and Chris Villa. Lady La, radio personality and 101.5 Jamz host of “Lady La in the Morning,” hosted the evening’s competition. Judges included Steve Levine (Phoenix based concert producer and promoter), Super Snake (radio personality known as “Voice of the Valley”), and DJ Tina T (world renowned DJ with residencies in Las Vegas and Los Angeles). Lady La mentioned more than once what a tough job the judges had in having to choose the winner. After all was said and done, DJ M2 humbly remarked, “I didn’t even think I’d place this year. The competition was crazy- everyone did something unique that made them stand out.”
After the awards ceremony, it was a homecoming for Phoenix’s own Z-Trip as he took to the stage to perform a special closing set for the packed house. About midway through, he surprised the crowd when friend and fellow Bombshelter DJ Radar joined him onstage. Z-Trip entertained the crowd into the wee hours of the night, keeping them dancing until the house lights came up. “Z-Trip is an inspiration,” said M2. “It’s amazing what he has accomplished.”
Red Bull Thre3Style is an innovative concept that gives highly skilled DJs a platform to battle, perform, gain notoriety and express themselves in a party atmosphere. Unlike other DJ battles that are based on more technical aspects, this is a creative and unique format that seeks to find the DJ that has best perfected the true art of “party rockin’.” Eight top local DJs fight for the crowd’s favor, each with a 15 minute set that MUST contain at least three different musical genres. A panel of music industry judges selects the winners based on track selection, creativity, mixing skills, stage presence and crowd reaction.
Red Bull Thre3Style is an international event series that made its U.S. debut in 2010; this year the series features qualifying events across the United States. The top DJs from San Francisco, Phoenix and Los Angeles will battle for two West Coast spots in the National Finals being held in Las Vegas in November. The winner from the National Finals will then go on to compete in the International Final in Vancouver, B.C. in December; with over 100 qualifying events throughout the world the International Final will pit the top 8 DJs in the world against each other.
