Broken Bells 2011

Well it’s a gorgeous, sunny day in lovely London and I’m a bit horse from an epic karaoke session last night with some of my favorites; we sang everything from “Regulate” by Warren G and Nate Dogg, Pulp’s “Common People”, to “A Whole New World” from Aladdin (oh, yes). Was never a real big karaoke girl until I started dating the boy; 2 ½ years later and I’ve officially caught the bug. Round two tonight (thanks to an at-home set! Wooo!), but before that, let’s get to this week’s music news!

Broken Bells, the magical collaboration of Danger Mouse and James Mercer, are releasing a new EP, Meyrin Fields, slated for a March 29th release which will feature three unreleased songs as well as “An Easy Life” (off the iTunes bonus edition of their debut album).  Check the track list after the jump.

Track List:

1. Meyrin Fields

2. Windows

3. An Easy Life

4. Heartless Empire

Head on here to stream “Meyrin Fields”.

Now, I don’t know about the rest of you, but I for one cannot get enough of Charlie Sheen and his ludicrous colloquialisms (I won’t express my opinions on his behavior as I make it a point not to comment on how others – particularly ones I don’t know – choose to live their lives. It’s theirs and they will do with it what they wish.) and was hoping to stumble upon something I could write about. Low and behold the wonders of the internet have struck again and, pow! “Charlie Sheen Bi-Winning Dub”. Completely absurd.

“Charlie Brown and Charlie Sheen” from “Jimmy Kimmel Live” remains my favorite though.

Ellie Goulding’s debut album Lights comes out next week, but head on over to here to stream it for free until then! Am really loving this album, but the song I can’t stop listening to at the moment is Bassnectar’s remix of “Lights”. Check it out below!

Eeeeeeee! Another new track from The Strokes! According to HypeTrak (via RCA) “The track (“You’re So Right”) will make up the B-side of their lead single ‘Under Cover of Darkness” and will be additionally released as a 7” on Record Store Day, April 16. Am loving both “You’re So Right” and “Under Cover Of Darkness”; can’t wait to get my panda paws on the album.

Also check out the video for “Under Cover Of Darkness”, also released this week.

Kyla La Grange is an up-and-coming London singer/songwriter; she’s recently been touring with I Blame Coco and will be at this year’s SXSW festival (if you’re going, I highly recommend checking her out). Here’s her first single, “Walk Through Walls”. Have already lost track of how many times I’ve listened to this today.

NPR is streaming REM’s new album Collapse Into Now and calling it “The band’s most rewarding album in 15 years… features stunning appearances by Patti Smith, Eddie Vedder, Peaches and other guests.” Click here to check it out!

Sometimes it’s a good thing when it’s a slow music news week (such as this one) because it forces me to dig a little deeper than just perusing the usual music blogs and I stumble upon new bands I might not have heard for some time. Case in point: 2:54, who sound like a mixture between Warpaint and The xx (hardly surprising, they were on tour with Warpaint and are apparently good friends with The xx). Check out “Creeping” and “Sugar”. Mandy digs.

Right, that’s it for this week!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Peace, love and Red Bull.

Mandy
