Music Asher Roth Talks Lebowski and Life After College

February 9, 2011 - 11:29 am

Asher Roth Red Bull Studios 2011

Asher Roth is 25 years old as of this writing. He marks Caucasian on the census. Looks a bit like Jesus presently. And he suggests that, “When it comes to condoms put two on.” No, he’s not some drunken frat boy prophet…anymore.

He just might be the next Eminem, on Wellbutrin.

I sat down with him recently in the Red Bull Recording studios as he worked on his new album…

Gallery Music Brighton MA Rocks Route 66

February 8, 2011 - 11:45 am

Brighton MA shared the road on Red Bull’s Rock the Route with Young Jesus. The Chicago-based band enjoyed a week of having a camera crew in their face capturing every minute of their experience. From taking shots out of a stiletto shoe to homemade Halloween costumes and feedback from guest celebrity judges, the guys consider it to be one of the best weeks of their lives.

I caught up with Brighton MA as they were cashing in their awarded studio time at Red Bull Studios. While sitting on the couch chatting over lunch, the fire alarm went off, causing everyone to scamper outside in the name of preserving their hearing. That was definitely a first but it didn’t stop the band from regrouping and sharing stories from Red Bull’s Rock the Route with ChinaShop:

Gallery Music Lyrics Born and Keys N Krates: All The Way Live

February 7, 2011 - 3:27 pm

Anyone who has been to a Lyrics Born show knows that simply standing around quietly enjoying his funk-heavy style of hip-hop won’t cut it—this innovative Bay Area MC and producer demands a visible response.

LB’s recent stop at the Abbey Pub was his first show performing in Chicago in a few years and his return didn’t disappoint. Currently on tour in support of his new album As U Were, the MC kept throwing out declarations of his set being a party as he performed 30-plus songs with his band and wife, vocalist Joyo Velarde. Lyrics Born assured the Chicago crowd that they’re one of the best audiences that he plays for in between igniting the synthy future funk of the cuts “Callin’ Out,” “I’m A Phreak,” and “I Like It, I Love It.”
