“No one can tell us what we can and can not do,” says Leanne Anderson, Creative Director for Iron Fist. An attitude that has got this company far in the last 8 years. Their sassy styles and ingenuity have grown this company into a fashion brand to watch. When I last checked in with them, a year and a half ago, they had just started to dip their toes into the ladies zombie shoes. A bold direction for a very niche market. However, success has never looked so mean…they are unique and so beautifully done you can’t help but to desire them.

Music Nicole Atkins “Kickstarts” Mondo Amore
It’s been three years since her 2007 debut, “Neptune City,” and Nicole Atkins couldn’t be more excited about her February 8th release of “Mondo Amore.” Atkins and her band, which she refers to as The Black Sea, are currently on the road with Cotton Jones in support of the new disc.
The tour was funded in a far from typical way. After posting a humorous video showing the harsh realities of her label lacking an adequate touring budget, Atkins politely asked fans to chip in what they could in order to get her out on the road. Utilizing the services of Kickstarter.com, people that pledged received anything from ‘good karma’ to a band-initiated ‘séance to contact a deceased loved one, Elvis, or whoever you want.’
Atkins goes into more detail in the following interview with ChinaShop:
Gallery Music The Twilight Singers Hypnotize Amoeba Music
The Twilight Singers have morphed into so much more than former Afghan Whig’s lead singer Greg Dulli could have imagined. Originally created as a side project while in between Afghan Whigs albums and in the midst of a record label dispute, Twilight Singers has become the current focus of Dulli’s career. Since their conception in 1997, the band has released five albums and is currently signed to Sub Pop Records.
Fans of The Twilight Singers celebrated the release of the band’s latest musical endeavor at Hollywood’s Amoeba Music on the album’s February 15th release date. As shoppers purchased CD and vinyl copies of “Dynamite Steps,” they were treated to a 30-minute set by the band.
Film Fridays Film Fridays: 5 Amazing Musical Moments From 80s Movies
5. RAD – The bike scene
This is really just a copy of what Daniel-san had to face at the Kobra-Kai dojo in Karate Kid, only with bike-riding ruffians. Goody two-shoes Cru (guess what I’m naming my kid now) and his girlfriend, the chick from Full House, strut their stuff at the high school dance. With his repertoire of ballet kicks and Gymkata-style dance moves, Cru’s kinda like Baryshnikov if he was a BMX bandit. One of the 80′s all-time best montages. They want a shot at your title, Daniel…
Gallery Music Linkin Park and The Prodigy Bridge the Gap at Staples Center
When Linkin Park released their latest album, A Thousand Suns, longtime fans had a bit of a meltdown. The diehards wanted so much to embrace its heavily electronic undertones and conceptual themes, but for many, their loyalty to the style LP helped pioneer with albums like Hybrid Theory and Meteora was just too strong. For me, a longtime electronic music fan, the change was a bold step in the right direction. So when it came time for Linkin Park to take their show on the road, a pairing with dance music kingpins The Prodigy at Staples Center in Los Angeles felt like a reinforcement of that new path.

So I’m back in my favorite city in the world, lovely London (sorry New York, I do love you and you are incredible, but I’m afraid London wins in my book) and what better way to start this week’s post than with two tracks from UK based Jamie Woon, a singer/songwriter whom I’m definitely digging. First up is “Night Air”, off last year’s EP (co-produced with Burial) and “Lady Luck” is the first single off his upcoming debut album Mirrorwriting; listen to both here. Also check out this video of Woon singing in a canoe in Cambodia; no bells, whistles or fancy camera work, just a simple video of Woon sitting in a canoe. In Cambodia. Singing. Awesome.
Fashion Gallery Spirit Hoods: Join the Tribe
Go to any music festival and you will most likely come across someone wearing a plush animal hood that has scarf like appendages that flow into mittens, or paws if you will. These fuzzy fashion accessories are products of Spirit Hoods. Made in Southern California by a group of hippie/hipster/vega/activists these hats represent a love for wildlife and efforts to give back to critical wildlife initiatives.
Art/Design Gallery Twin Peaks Celebrates 20th Anniversary at Clifton’s
This month, Twin Peaks is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Conceived and created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, the haunting TV series ran its fleeting course in the early nineties, suffering tremendous interferences at the hands of ratings-hungry studio execs. Despite its untimely conclusion, Twin Peaks received critical acclaim and spawned a devoted cult following. The plot unfolded around the shocking murder of a prom queen in a fictional Washington town, and the arrival of Seattle FBI agent, Dale Cooper, sent to solve the mystery. The eccentricities and shady undercurrents of small-town life are the heart of the show, though. Coffee, pie, doughnuts, trees and owls – daily staples of Twin Peaks life – became the show’s iconic motifs, and were prominently featured in the artwork of In the Trees – an art event commemorating the series.
Music Lamb Return With Their First New Album in 8 Years
Being an electronic music fan back in the mid-’90s was a magical thing. Fresh sounds and new movements were popping up everywhere. The era of the superstar DJ was in full effect, and the seeds were sown for what inevitably became the complete post-modern fusion of indie rock and electronic music. One of the most exceptionally relevant and unique artists of that time was Lamb, a group that could reduce tens of thousands of pogoing festival-goers to a weeping, motionless mass in the course of back-to-back songs. After releasing their fourth studio album, Between Darkness And Wonder, back in 2003, the group split. Vocalist Lou Rhodes went on to release three critically acclaimed solo albums, while Andy’s just released his first solo album (as LOWB) earlier this year. Last December, Lou and Andy announced that they were officially back in the studio working on new Lamb material. The album, entitled 5, will be released in May. We got a chance to hear it. Then we jumped online for a lengthy chat with the dynamic duo. You can read the interview after the jump.
Featured Music An Education With Kid Sister
“Uhh, it’s Young Josh a.k.a DJ Boyfriend now,” sayeth the raven haired rapper looking down at my notes rested on the arm of the meringue sofa inside Red Bull Recording Studio in Santa Monica California. She is referring of course to her brother of Flosstradamus fame. “J2K is out.”
Thus begins my education by Chicago’s Kid Sister on what not to say and who not to talk to waitresses about…
