Delphic, Jon Fratelli, Fresh Fries, an open bar, and ice cream…what more could you ask to be included in one evening? This menagerie of amusement was hosted by Dangerbird Records and JBL at the Dangerbird headquarters on Thursday. The party turnout was superb, especially given the fact that the NBA finals were on, with the Lakers fighting tooth-and-nail for the title. Dangerbird was kind enough to play the friendly host card and provide outdoor television screens for those internally conflicted between the bands on stage and the purple and yellow on screen.
Attendees gathered on the basketball court outside, drinks in hand, for some incredibly talented music. The party kicked off with Delphic taking the stage around 8:00pm with an assortment of drums, guitar, synth, and vocals, creating the ultimate recipe for moving an audience. I found myself in the front of the stage surrendering into a trance of dancing and chanting out the lyrics to the catchy, This Momentary: “Real something, real something, let’s do something real.”
As a fan of The Fratellis, I was definitely amped to catch the set of Jon Fratelli’s new solo project. Poor Jon had to wait until the Lakers brought it home, fans applauded, and chaos erupted, but was eventually able to take the stage without a distracted audience. Jon set up with a guitar, a hat, and his curly hair, and played some tunes off of his new solo project, as well as the one he recently departed, Codeine Velvet Club. He opened with Little Sister, and continued from there. His voice sounded great and although I loved the Fratellis full-band, I can definitely say I’m a fan of Jon solo, and it really fit the atmosphere of the courtyard stage.
The shows were fantastic and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves – from the label personnel, to the hipsters. Even the lazy bulldog in attendance plopped his butt down next to his owners and occasionally looked up to the stage. I didn’t personally brave the line for the French fry truck but those that did walked away with pleased faces. I did, however hit the bar and discover ‘Water in a box,’ which certainly quenched my thirst for the evening.

Probably the nicest photos and definitely the best write-up I’ve seen on this Dangerbird Records party. Thanks for posting.
