Hip-hop was center stage at East Rutherford, New Jersey’s Bamboozle festival this year. So much so, that the Genre had it’s own dedicated ‘B-Boy’ tent featuring artists like Drake, Wiz Khalifa, Mike Posner & More. Included in the group was D.C born rapper Wale, or Olubowale Victor Akintimehin as his mother would call him.

Music Blog Right :: Asian Dan (AsianManDan.com)
Every week, China Shop talks to a music blogger who is taking part in the new global music community.
They call it blog house for a reason. Okay, no one really calls it blog house anymore, but back when they did call it blog house, Asian Dan was more than just another clearing house for illicit electro remixes. Whether hanging out with A-Trak, or scooping the entire internet on the infamous Justice rejected Fabric mix, Asian Dan is always our first stop to see where dance music is headed next.

Gallery Music Mash-Up Madness with GIRL TALK : Bamboozle 2010
Girl Talk aka Mike Gillis united the festival last Sunday with his “something for everyone” brand of mash-up madness. Gillis’ set was a sonic cornucopia that broke rules and blended genres. Be it Metallica, Weezy, or Avril, you can bet the farm that it was in the soup. & Throughout the entire show, one thing held true… This was about having a good time and getting people moving.
Contributors Scenes from the Desert
As a Coachella virgin, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. “100,000 people,” I was told. “Frigging hot,” I was cautioned. “Hipsterfest 2010,” someone declared.
While these tidbits would be enough to put any sane person totally off the idea, the warnings worked like an aphrodisiac. I began to lust over the madness. ‘Yes!’, I thought. ‘Throw me in amongst the ridiculous fray. Let’s experience this in all its frenzied glory.’
Gallery Music Ska Music’s Super Heros : THE AQUABATS
I LOVE THE AQUABATS and I’m proud of it! & while it feels a bit like coming out of the closet, I suppose, (I’m straight and stoked) It also feels good to stand up for what’s true and beautiful in this world… Pure unadulterated Ska music! Today, Ska music may not float atop the main-stream, but it’s undercurrents will forever run strong in the hearts of it’s two-toned followers.
Gallery Music Welcome to the OK Go Show
Grammy award winning Chicago quartet OK Go got the crowd pumping last Sunday at East Rutherford, New Jersey’s Bamboozle Festival. In a typically colorful set, lead singer Damian Kulash and the boys mixed fresh gems from their new album Of the Blue Colour of the Sky with classics like Here It Goes Again, aka “the treadmill dance song,” as most people know it.
It was hard to take your eyes of guitar player Andy Ross’s candy apple red 2 piece and bass player Tim Nordwind’s pink button up but concertgoers were kept on their toes by a constant stream of crowd surfers that peppered the crowd like croutons on your salad.
Oddity The Jolly Green Poodle
Los Angeles county: Home to the land of “fruits and nuts” as my father and other Midwesterners commonly joke. When I initially made the cross country trek from MI to LA, I settled into a job at the grand ‘ol intersection of Hollywood and Vine, which served as a daily reminder of my father’s affectionate nickname for my new city. Once settled in, I began to realize that these daily eccentricities go hand in hand with living in Tinsel Town and it became refreshing to encounter a daily dose of flair. For those that find themselves in the position of being able to walk the streets of Hollywood Blvd, this is an easy task to accomplish. Once you drive a bit into the suburbs, it becomes more of a game of Where’s Waldo, however…unless of course, you know where to look.
Event Cockblocked from Coachella
So I don’t mean to get all hocus pocus on your ass, but bad things happen when you travel during Mercury retrograde. Life just goes awry. In a big way. From misscommunications to missed flights, it is a time when ideally you should lay low, revise or edit old projects, & generally not be too ambitious. But hey! We’re brave! We care not for astrology! WE ARE CHINASHOP! We’ll give anything a try! & so, on Saturday morning, Barbie (our editor & multi-tasking prodigy), Seth (taciturn & phenomenally gifted videographer & photographer) & I (insert your own adjectives & nouns here) set off towards the desert in a blue Nissan Altima hybrid.
Featured Gallery Music Weezer-Nation Rises Up
Weezer was in full effect Sunday night as the long-standing rock institution headlined New Jersey’s Bamboozle festival. The event [Bamboozle] marked the beginning of the east coast summer festival season and attracted over 60,000 concertgoers with over 100 bands.
You wouldn’t know it by the high energy, edge of your seat, romp the band put it on, but front-man, songwriter-savant Rivers Cuomo recently recovered from fractured ribs and an injured back sustained in a tour bus accident last December. Enjoying his new-found health, Cuomo was 100% and so was the band’s Mega-Set which featured a surprise medley of MGMT’s “Kids” and Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face.” In an ironic / surreal moment, Andrew and Ben (MGMT), watched from the crowd as the rock legends played their song to the captive audience.
