When I first heard the concept I was interested, but when I saw the product I was blown away. UK clothing label “Good One” is not only fashion forward, but ethically sound.
The company, owned by Nin Castle takes fragments of discarded clothing and re-creates them as sexy, glamorous gems. Good One’s aim is to challenge the throwaway culture that creates vast amounts of waste and pollution each year. They are well aware that to accomplish their mission they must make garments that people want to buy. And buy they do.
To facilitate the increased demand for these sexy sustainables, the UK based company outsourced production to the HEBA project, a registered charity which trains and employs disadvantaged women and a social enterprise called Bambanani in Cape Town.
Starting at around 45 pounds ($80), you can rest assured that buying one of these stylish articles will not only have you looking good, but will also send your karma score through the roof. The ambitious company has recently been recognized by the BBC and the Guardian, and has won the £15,000 Trevor Campbell award for enterprise.
