In 2008, the entire fashion world had a collective eyegasm while gawping at the Sex and The City movie. While most people I know were flabbergasted and horrified by the story, the styling was a definite high-point. From the Vivienne Westwood bridal couture to that infamous studded belt, its aesthetic influence — just as it was during the show — was massive.
Well, get ready to re-live it all over again. On May 28th, Sex and The City 2 will be released, and gaggles of women across the planet will grab their girlfriends, put on their highest heels and totter to the nearest cinema for the latest dose of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. Opening night tickets became available for sale in early April, many of which sold out within hours. Sex and The City fever is BACK.
I admit that I wasn’t very excited about the upcoming movie extravaganza — but then I saw the new trailer, and I have completely changed my mind. Now I am on the edge of my seat. LET’S DO THIS!
The fashion, of course, is just as fantastic as ever. From jewelled turbans to studded shoulders, and bright headscarves to gold harem pants, it’s yet another fabulous plume in Patricia Field’s well-deserved hat. Her costuming is always colourful, bold & a visual delight. Taking the four women from New York City & placing them in Abu Dhabi was the perfect opportunity to push the boundaries.
The story is guarded like a crown jewel, but rumours are still rife. Among them are whispers that Big will cheat on Carrie (thus proving him to be the most horrible man ever, like he didn’t put her through the wringer enough already!), Big & Carrie will lose all their money & have to move in with Charlotte & Harry, Carrie meets Aidan in Abu Dhabi (which the extended trailer seems to prove!), Carrie & Big have a baby, Samantha has a baby, Smith reappears, Stanford & Anthony get married, & that there will be guest appearances by Liza Minelli, Miley Cyrus, Victoria Beckham, Katie Holmes, Tim Gunn & Penelope Cruz.
I always think of Carrie as the quintessential independent girl, so my personal preference would be that she DOESN’T have a baby — but who knows what will happen? Did anyone predict Big leaving Carrie at the altar? NO! It’s always a surprise. Director Michael Patrick King said, “So we move from marriage to the next logical place in people’s minds, is she having a baby? It’s one of the thoughts of the movie. For me, I always like to do something that’s individualistic & unique for Carrie Bradshaw, since she is one of a kind.”
