Boards and beanies

The indie streetwear business can be fickle. In Chicago alone, many boutiques that focus on carrying super exclusive kicks and Ts have come and gone lately. But a few have held strong, including Jugrnaut—the only shop of its kind standing in Chicago’s downtown, loop area.

Sasha and Digweed Yacht Party 2009

Every year during the Winter Music Conference in Miami, the world renowned Sasha and John Digweed board a private yacht and set sail on the most exclusive party of the year.  Until this moment, unless you personally were in the good graces of these two electronic greats, you literally missed the boat.  Through some incredible act of kindness or black magic charm, to celebrate our 1st anniversary, ChinaShop has acquired 6 spots aboard this fantastical journey, hereunto unknown by common mortals without connections.

YOU sir or madam, could be on the boat, shaking your groove thing next Thursday, March 25th!

3 Incredibly lucky (and resourceful) individuals over the age of 21, will win 2 spots each on the boat. As with all things desirable, there are a few catches. 1) You have to already be in Miami (hey I sold my first born for these spots…I can’t do ALL the work to get you there) 2) The spots are non-transferable (if you don’t really want them…you can’t give em or sell em to another individual) 3)You have to get creative and show us you are really worthy (after all this IS the holy grail of the electronic community)

Music Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Live Blog

March 16, 2010 - 8:58 am

iggy and billie

The world is pretty much divided into two camps. Those who thinks the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a vital force in keeping alive the fading spirit of rock. And those who think it’s the epitome of everything that is killing that spirit. Of course, if you’re in the second camp, you’ve probably not bothered to even read this. And besides, ever since John Lydon called the Hall of Fame a “piss stain” when it inducted the Sex Pistols, there hasn’t really been more to say on that particular topic. So for the for the folks who do care, he’s a semi-snark free account of four hours that the rest of you will YouTube in about four minutes.

Los Angeles Oddity The Simpsons’ Harry Shearer Laughs at Our Economy, Mr. Burns-Style

March 16, 2010 - 8:55 am

WHEEEEE-OOOOOOOO

In addition to being Derek Smalls of Spinal Tap, Harry Shearer does 16 voices on The Simpsons: Mr. Burns, Smithers, Flanders, Otto Reverend Lovejoy, Kent Brockman, and Lenny Leonard, among others. And besides being one of showbiz’s most accomplished renaissance men, Shearer is also a prolific recording artist who’s versatile on many instruments (besides bass), like banjo and acoustic guitar, and has an amazing sense of humor to back it up. A couple years ago Shearer released Attack of the Bushmen, which featured Bush on the cover, bone slung through his schnozz, and pretty much summed up the tone of the album. This year Shearer released Greed and Fear, which also pokes fun at the country’s current crises, namely the downfall of the economy a couple years ago and the dickheads responsible. Unfortunately there isn’t much on the net besides this, from his last album.
