Russian Circles - Geneva

Sargent House | Russian Circles may beckon with their cacophony of happy-harmonies, but it’s only a ploy to sucker you into their black hole of musical dissonance. While that may sound a bit nihilistic, it’s really just a hint at how schizophrenic the band is capable of getting. It must be working: Alternative Press recently declared of their third album Geneva that “the maps have just been redrawn.”

Make of that what you will, but getting sucked past the event horizon of RC’s sound, it’s easy to see the band’s utter indifference for time and space in the realm of indie noise rock. Though an acquired taste, it’s also exciting to see what a band like Russian Circles is doing to bend the laws of musical physics, and always a mystery as to what’s going to happen on the way out.
