A bit of the Heavenly (“Preamble pat II”), a bit of the hectic (“Island”); a bit of the good old reverb-drenched vocal and untuned piano dirge (“Good Good Good Desperation”, the title track form their latest)–even an occasional foray into deep-fried southern rock territory–Hopewell has managed to mix in the right amount of nostalgia with their undeniable modern sensibilities, all without being overindulgent, Hopewell is among the newest of bands seeking to conquer indie airwaves. With Good Good Good Desperation, already gaining the quartet accolades, Hopewell stands ready to constantly confound the listener, and in their own twisted perverse and parasitic way, attach themselves endearingly.
