Event Gallery Hello Kitty: Bats and Cats Masquerade

On Friday, Royal/T Cafe in Culver City hosted the final shebang in a series of events dedicated to Hello Kitty’s 35th anniversary. The 80s-goth-themed Bats and Cats Ball was hosted by Bubble Punch and drew a crowd of 1,100 which formed a line that wrapped around the block and, from a distance, resembled a black cloud of tulle and vinyl. Guests dressed up in every style imaginable, from elegant Lolita to Sanrio cosplay to the blackest of black. Bottom line is they dressed up! Inside, among tons of Hello Kitty art and merchandise, there was a DJ set by LA goth scene veteran Amanda Jones, a dance performance by the Wandering Marionettes, photo ops with Hello Kitty herself, and a costume contest, naturally. Oh, and cupcakes. We mustn’t forget the cupcakes.
