The celebrity/fashion crossover continues to pick up speed as the world’s ultimate super-couple — Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt — have turned their hand to jewellry design. This week it was announced that they have put together a capsule collection of gold & silver jewelry & accessories for upscale jewelers Asprey. The English company served as Crown Jeweler from 1843 through to 2007, and were responsible for the upkeep of the Crown Jewels during this time.
Based around a snake motif, Brad and Angie’s collection is called The Protector, the inspiration for which came from a ring Jolie was given while pregnant with the couple’s first child, Shiloh. It was in the shape of a snake, & since then, Jolie has considered the snake to be a lucky talisman & protector of her family. It’s all very appropriate, given that the proceeds of the collection will go to Education Partnership for Children of Conflict. The charity was co-founded by Jolie in 2006, and raises awareness & money to help educate children who have been affected by conflict, war & natural disasters.
Pitt & Jolie haven’t said anything about what went into the designing of the collection, choosing instead to focus on the charity: in an email from Jolie, they said, “These are the children who most need a safe place to learn, a place to heal, a place to learn reconciliation, a place to build a better future & a place — to just be children. Yet the education for these children is often forgotten. Tens of millions of children & adolescents in conflict are not in school.” Prices start at $525 for a silver baby spoon with a snake-shaped handle, & other items include egg-cups, picture frames, pendants, rings & cuff-links. In silver & gold, many of the pieces feature micropavé diamonds, and will be available later this week at their London, Beverly Hills, New York, Tokyo & Dubai boutiques. How do you feel about celebrity designers? Do you think you’d take up the opportunity to design for a big company if you were famous? Or would you prefer to stick to what you knew you were good at?

The rings are very pretty. However,
1. Why is this written With All These Excessive Goddamn Capitals? It’s Distracting, Ugly, And Makes You Look Dumb, Particularly When You Write A Whole Post Like This Rather Than Just A Phrase Or Even A Sentence. I’ve read your blog at galadarling.com – found it years ago in high school – and while there is much one could say about your style there, at least your writing does seem to echo the breathless bounciness of your online persona. This Shit, Meanwhile… I Dunno, Man.
2. You need to provide source for your pictures. This is partially a stylistic question but more importantly a gesture of respect and courtesy. I seem to recall an article on the importance of manners/charm at iCiNG? I realize that it may be hard to track down a photographer for something like commercial shooting, but you need to at least give the reader a link to where you first found the pictures, so that the reader can investigate further if interested.
I realize that these two complaints could be better directed at your editor than you yourself; it’s certainly possible that some idiot would take the time to add all those darn capitals to your text under the misapprehension that it “totally looks cool” or some bullshit like that. So if you are not responsible, I’d appreciate it if you passed my words on to someone who is.
Thank you for your time.

I’ve always admired Brad & Angelina for what they do. This collection looks wonderful, and I hope it’s a success. I’m very fond of snake designs — if only I had the money to spare!
To S: the All Caps Thing looks like a CSS mishap to me.
I agree with S. Please, PLEASE credit photographers, or at least link back to your sources of the photos.
Sorry about the all caps things folks. Issue should be fixed now and was never intentional.
