Tribal, rhythmic, exotic– these are descriptions rarely applicable to dance artists nowadays, most of whom favor the monotonous and uninspired over something even remotely experimental. But there’s a great deal of the unique in Rainbow Arabia’s new EP, Kabukimono, on which keyboardist Danny Preston and his wife, Tiffany, exploit their respective musical talents to the fullest.

While most listeners may find themselves taken aback at the duo’s world music flavor, full of Latin, African, and reggae-style dance beats, others will find comfort in the group’s reliable 80’s new wave sound, which at times recalls everything from Eddy Grant to Siouxsie Sioux. “Haunted Hall” could be a worthy follow-up to Rockwell’s “Sometimes I Feel Like Someone’s Watching Me”, whilst retaining its ethnically diverse backbeat; “I Know I See Love Go” is distinctly progressive in its Arabic Middle Eastern sounds.
