Set in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is Moto-x legend Carey Hart’s club, Wasted Space. Its a small club with a dive bar feel. However, there is nothing cut rate about it. The luxurious leather booths and clever original paintings on the walls and ceiling define it as the kind of place where the grown-up punk rock crowd wants to hang out. My absolute favorite part of this club is that you can have a seat without the need to buy a bottle at 5x the cost for the privilege of sitting there. Its nearly the perfect place to see a killer band like the Raveonettes.
The Raveonettes – Last Dance
The Danish rock duo, played there on Tuesday night for the 10th anniversary Sailor Jerry celebration. Singer / Guitarist Sharin Foo has a presence and an ease that gives even the straightest girls I know a cause for a girl crush. And believe me, the room was chuck full of hotties thinking the same thing that night. Rock-a-billy girls and guys filled the room, pompadours stacked high as heels. There certainly was no lack of personality present.
The opening band, Earthmen and Strangers were reminiscent of a love child between The Cramps and Dinosaur Jr. A lot of heart and beats on the down stroke keep the energy thumping. Even so I still needed a bit of a kick to keep it going. (In a totally unrelated aside…I recently decided to diet and did some research to figure out what is the lowest calorie alcoholic drink I could consume. It turns out that most shots are only 64 calories. And if you mix a little 64 calorie vodka with Sugar Free Red Bull (10) all in you are only looking at 74 calories – which is exactly what I did).
The Sailor Jerry crowd was hip and cool and so nice. All the girls were adorable and dressed to impress. And believe it or not all the fellas turned out to be gentlemen. When you add a comfortable room with really great unpretentious crowd and a band as good as the Raveonettes you have yourself a party that is just my kind of fine!
