Fashion Sparkle and Shine

The world has to wait another 6 months for the massive fashion trade show MAGIC to come around again…February simply seems eons away. Until then I thought I’d leave you with a few impressions from this season. The show was full of colorful characters, beautiful clothing, painting on both objects and people, creative booth designs, and sparkle. In fact, if there is one thing that will not be OUGHT (effect Heidi Klum accent here please) is the sparkle. If you are sick of it, you better hide your eyes via hibernation for the next 6 months. Everything from jeans to jewelry is still bright and shiny. If they can pop a rivet into it they will.

Now, if you are like me,  I am not only drawn to the sparkle but seduced by its promise of pretty glamor. When I see a life size 9mm gun belt buckle I giggle with glee. I spot a bangle bracelet containing actual toys and trinkets from my youth I instantly feel a bit of connection..all that color and plastic takes over my senses. When I run my hand over anything soft and fuzzy…real or faux I immediately covet its comfort and warmth. This environment is so hyper-stylized that you sort of lose yourself in the promise of the coolest trends, and most outrageous accessories.

Candy colors are the new black. Anything 80′s is brand new again. Leggings aren’t leaving anytime soon. Boys are still wearing their pegged skinny jeans falling off their asses and tattoo inspired everything is everywhere, some tasteful, some not so much. Upstart brands from upstart bands are popping up everywhere, like the new line from LMFAO, Party Rock. And classic Rapper lines are still rollin’ big…like Jay-Z’s Rocawear booth straight outta the 18 wheeler.

Thank god I’m  a lover, not a buyer, I’ll leave it to their level heads to be on the floor making the decisions. I’ll wait with the rest of you to see what makes it to retail shops this spring. My special secret, however,  will always be the memory of what could have been….nothing but miles of sparkle and shine. Someone really does need to save me from myself!

  1. Why are all the fashion editors at Chinashop so intent on promoting real fur? It’s disgusting and ruins any street cred your ‘magazine’ may acquire.
