With so many t-shirts on the market I have a hard time getting excited. Since the t-shirt became a staple of the American teenage uniform since the beginning of the last century (going back almost as early as 1913) it has monopolized the wardrobes of society, young and old alike. There is nothing like finding a favorite T and then wearing it within an inch of its life. But lets face it, the basic t-shirt doesn’t really change much…its all about the graphic. And its super hard to stumble on a graphic that speaks to me enough to actually reach down in my pocket for my wallet.
The guys at Exact Science might have gone and changed that for me. Their philosophy is one of collaboration motivated by urban art. And they are pretty true to the source. The above photo is of a painting and the below photo is the t-shirt graphic inspired by that painting. I have to say I’d be happy to own either.
The thing about Exact Science is that their goal is to ultimately reach beyond something “cool” and inspire people into action. They call themselves a “concept studio” and they dance between genres, scenes, styles, elements and techniques. They have lofty goals of doing greater good and I can’t thumb my nose at that one little bit.
Plus the designs are fresh and fun. Where they ride a narrow rail that might take them to intellectual-but-hokey-land it doesn’t. Its a non-stop track to awesome. They are the hands down winner in my book on what to wear this coming season. That’s right, buy yet another t-shirt..and better still….get involved in your culture and get inspired into action. I like the sound of that, after all its never too late to be a part of something bigger than yourself.
Since you are going to wear a t-shirt anyway… make sure your not just advertising some bullshit for the man! I think Exact Science has it straight, supporting the arts and efforts of the community in which they live. Check them out online at http://www.myspace.com/exactscience. See what they have to say and maybe if they can’t change your shirt…they just might change your mind.
