Fashion Sex And The City 2: Open Call
by Gala Darling August 11, 2009 - 9:53 am
Yesterday’s open casting call for Sex & The City 2 was an incredible sight. Despite the sweltering heat & lack of shade, thousands of well-garbed budding thespians thronged to the Metropolitan Pavilion for their chance to be immortalized on the silver screen, alongside the likes of Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York, Miranda Hobbs & Samantha Jones.
Yes, the inimitable foursome are back for a follow-up to Sex & The City: The Movie, which was released in 2008. The sequel will be released in March 2010, & for a franchise that was almost as well-known for its fashion as for its boundary-pushing storylines, it’s no surprise that the stylish were out in force.
The line – which moved surprisingly quickly – snaked along 18th Street, up 6th avenue & then back along 19th Street. The whole area was electrified with excitement & nervous giggles, as groups of friends stood in line waiting for their turn to wow the casting agents.
A man on the other side of the street, obviously curious, looked at me & asked, “What’s going on?” When i told him it was an open casting for SATC2, he laughed uproariously. It was an unusual-looking gaggle, to be sure. The open call said they were looking for “fashion models, celebrity types, upscale socialites, urban club goers, gays & lesbians, international types (Middle Eastern, Arabic, Asian, European, British), & professional soccer players”. The resulting crowd were a true mish-mash of styles, shapes, heights & colours.
I’m so glad I went to snap some pictures of the people who caught my eye. It was fantastic to see so many people sporting such diverse, distinctive looks with oodles of confidence & lots of humor.
Here are a few of my favorite looks from the day – & if you were one of those who tried out, best of luck! Hopefully we’ll see you on the big screen soon.
