Joshua Davis started his fascination with computers around 1995. He started playing with the programming components, pushing the envelope of what they were designed for and generating inventive ways to be creative. Based on his ability to see what’s possible, he became a unique and inspiring entity, artist, designer, technologist. Although he produces intricate prints, and exhibits his work all over the world, his true art is the process. Its when he shares the ability to play inside that process that the true nature of his art is experienced.
“In my work I derive huge satisfaction from creating discrete shape and color palettes and then writing algorithms that assemble the pieces into randomized, whole compositions. Chance is not always pretty, but it is fun. With Reflect, take a walk, or rather design, in my shoes.” – Joshua Davis
As an artist, Davis is one of those rare creatures that has figured out how to create form, balance, and emotion using design and color. He creates magical, playful, impossibly detailed, harmonious designs. And now, through a special iphone application called Reflect, users can play with shapes and color in a kaleidoscope fashion for hours. It allows you to put a little play back into your crazy busy life. You can choose from 6 designs and 10 different color ways creating a host of endless possibilities. Its cathartic, I have to say. Just allowing yourself to be delighted, even if only for a little while, can really relieve the tension of a “get it done” kind of day.
Although I’m not generally prone to sing the praises of technology, I applaud any application that brings art back into life as we know it.
