Calling all cyborgs, Stepford wives & alien girls… Whoever thought these three very distinct breeds would ever share a secret shopping spot?

Well, they do.  Artifice Clothing, an online boutique based out of Toronto, Canada, surely has those markets cornered.

Artifice Clothing

Describing what they do as “an odd assortment of shiny over-the-top clothing & well-fitted classics”, Artifice manage to differentiate themselves from standard fetish clothing companies, which demonstrate a lot of stale same-old-same-old-ness, by pushing boundaries, trying new things, & crossing genres with a maniacal cackle.

Artifice Clothing

Their secret lies in their ability to combine unexpected materials with eccentric styling.  Artifice’s aesthetic ranges from demure to truly fetishistic, partnered with a wicked sense of humour.  So many of their pieces would be a fantastically bizarre addition to any fashionistas wardrobe, from  (which should absolutely be worn with a little black dress) to uber-shiny knee socks & dresses for the sincerely futuristic Mormon Polygamist wife.

If that’s not enough to wet your whistle, Artifice are also the sole stockists of Cybertek Functional Accessories — a design company started by an electromechanical engineering student.  Their light-up gladiator arm shields & totally mad boot
armour, while all erring on the side of completely impractical, will inject a much-needed dose of high-tech geek brilliance into your outfit. Imagine how popular they’d make you at the staff Christmas party!

How can we summarize a company like Artifice?  Let’s just say they’re equal parts evil, genius & shiny.

  3. i can’t believe how poorly this article was written. the author has no sense of fashion whatsoever, and these words downplay and pigeonhole one of those most unique, creative, bizarre fashion concepts on the market. chinashop, i urge you to hire writers who KNOW what they’re talking about.

  4. Oh my goodness. I had no idea Toronto (I live here, hi!) had such gold! I thought Plastik Wrap was all there was in futuristic [wearable] fashion. REVELATION!

  5. I love Artifice, I’m so proud of Toronto designers – especially when they are noticed like this :]

  6. “Imagine how popular they’d make you at the staff Christmas party!”

Yeah, ’cause that’s who this stuff is marketed at: who doesn’t want a huge-$$$$ outfit to wear only once at their staff Christmas party? WHAT?! This article seems to be mocking the whole rave/fetish scene — some people take this stuff seriously, you know, please show us some respect. “a fantastically bizarre addition to any fashionistas wardrobe”? You’re not seriously marketing fetishwear to fashionistas? This stuff HAS a niche market, and this article totally ignores it!

Also “from (which should absolutely be worn with a little black dress) to uber-shiny knee socks & dresses for the sincerely futuristic Mormon Polygamist wife.”
I’ll dismiss the ridiculousness (and slightly offensive nature) of “sincerely futuristic Mormon Polygamist wife” (you know nothing about Mormonism either, it seems…) for a second, and just ask — does this sentence make sense? WHAT should be worn with (shudder) a little black dress?!
