In July of 1986, somewhere near Sacramento, CA, there was a crash and then a cry. Angel Deradoorian was created and nearly killed within her first minutes on Earth, but her quick-thinking father removed the umbilical chord from her blue face and she breathed life…and with it came an inexorable passion for music. 22 years later Angel releases her debut EP; a strikingly beautiful snapshot from a life of music.

Angel’s family of musicians–her mother and father were in a killer sax & piano duo in the 70s–were more than happy to indulge her nascent love of music. At age 7 she began taking piano lessons and extended her learning abilities to flute and guitar. At age 15, she left high school to become a serious musician and started touring with professional bands. At age 20 she joined Dirty Projectors–whom she records and tours with to this day. And at age 22, Angel has finally decided to release her own music on Lovepump United under her last name, Deradoorian. The Mind Raft EP is astonishingly mature, dark, beautiful, and unexpected–if only because seems to have tapped into something far older and wiser than her 22 years would suggest. Whether it’s the guitar, bass flute, or her stunning voice, Angel’s musical proficiency is boundless. This is as promising as a debut can get.
