Film Winnebago Man
“…hysterical, pee-your-pants-funny and tragically touching…”
“I don’t want anymore bullshit from anyone and that includes me! No more!!!” Angrier words may have never been spoken on internet video than these. This collection of outtakes from an old industrial film features a frustrated old gentleman stumbling to just get through dialog that he himself wrote. He’s clearly having the worst day in his life and his expletive-laden rants have become the stuff of internet video legend. The video was originally passed among collectors on VHS tape decades ago, then made its way onto YouTube, the place where the pain and embarassment of others become hilariously entertaining. The millions who watched it made Jeck Rebney a reluctant internet star. But what is this man really like? Why was he so angry? And how did this entertaining video become so public? Who is Jack Rebney and where is he today?
Featured Music Leave the LIGHTS on!
Sunday night at the Pangaea in Austin a little lady who goes by the name LIGHTS hit the stage. All the way from Toronto Canada, this rising star shines bright. Her trusty keytar in hand she blends electronic melodies with pop, rock and new wave sounds.
She has risen to #1 on MuchMusic Canada and garnered over 10 million plays on MySpace and a JUNO nomination for Best New Artist.
Needless to say it was (wait for it….)
Urban Exploration Dunt Nuh Nuh Nuh Nuh, $40 bits….

This line of work sometimes has its perks. Example, this little ditty offered me the chance for a free hair cut and sparkly shoe shine. Saaaweet!, except for the matter of me being mostly bald and wearing flip flops the majority of the time. Let’s just say this anecdotist hasn’t been bought. But, I digress.
Featured interview Music The Lords of Altamont will kick your ass!

From left to right: Kevin Starr, Jake "The Preacher" Cavaliere, John "Big Drag" Saletra, Johnny "Stiggs" Devilla, not pictured Shawn "Sonic" Medina
Named for the infamous speedway immortalized in the Rolling Stones concert film, Gimme Shelter, the Lords of Altamont evoke the feeling of psychedelic influenced, 60’s, biker culture. Their collective black hair, skinny jeans, fitted tees and obligatory tattoos unify them as an old school punk rock band. Personally, I appreciate the effort. Their attitudes and attire are more reminiscent of the Steve McQueens of the motorcycle movie world, than say, the Peter Fondas.
Film Filmmakers Sound Off on South By

The annual trek to Austin, Texas in March for the SXSW Film Festival has been made by many notable filmmakers. And once they take in the sights, sounds and culture permeating Sixth Street, they are hooked. In fact, after losing their SXSW virginity, many make movies they plan to take to what is becoming the festival world’s most desirable destination.
Having covered SXSW and attended as a filmmaker a few years myself, I can attest to the fact that while other festivals are necessary for business, this one offers all the networking of those other festivals with more friendly fun than can be packed into days that seem to blur together. A simple math equation might explain this best:
Great Films + Parties + Tex Mex + Texas Women + College Town + Local Brews – Pretentious Hollywood Attitude = The Best Fest in the West
Music Black Gold Releases Rush
Multi-instrumentalists Eric Ronick and Than Luu have spent years lending their skills to a variety of big names (Panic at the Disco, M. Ward, Rachael Yamagata, to name a few) and are now stepping into the spotlight with Black Gold. The duo formed the band in 2006 and worked on writing material for their debut album, Rush, between their stage musician gigs. The record is already available digitally now.
Bars/Clubs Dirty Bills
There exists a bar on the far side of the world, for those of you reading this in Madagascar, which claims the moniker of “Dirty Bill’s”. It’s an unassuming joint and by that I mean it’s a dive bar. Dare I say newly constructed dive bar which is not too loud and just a scream above quiet. Occupancy, of a whopping 49.5 ppl, will get to that in a sec.
I first called upon said establishment some 6mths ago in due course of a bar crawl. As I posted up I was enthralled by the buku paparazziesque photos which line the walls of this cozy lil’ joint. Upon further inspection of the wall adjacent to the Ms. Pac Man machine I noticed a certain diminutive similarity. Each contains a pseudo celeb, Celeb, or some famous spot and all share the common denominator of a lil’ gnome dude named Dirty Bill. I decided I must booze with a man who is so well traveled, and after many a trial and tribulation I was finally granted an audience. The following is our conversation a la Lipton…
Music Get Your Fitz
Fitz from Fitz & The Tantrums play the 3 of Clubs Hollywood CA
Fitz & The Tantrums aren’t what you expect. Their melodic retro Motown/Soul infused rhythms keep the crowd guessing. Think Amy Winehouse on Orange Juice. The sound and the vibe for Songs for a Break Up-Vol 1 EP have everything to do with the acquisition of an old church organ, recommended by an ex-girlfriend. A phone call reluctantly returned that inspired Fitz to write the title track “Breakin’ The Chains of Love” the night he got it.
Urban Exploration Guerilla in the ChinaShops
The open-air “tchotchke emporiums” of New York City’s Chinatown have always been a great source of amusement in my life, though the only thing i’ve ever bought in Chinatown is food, fireworks and mixtapes. I have always been a fan of their wares, and sensory-overload style presentation. Before the sun goes down, the streets become vacant, shady and smell like day old fish and week-old garbage – it’s a free market mania and bargain-basement bonanza that make Canal street into pedestrian-level eye candy at the very least.
