Colin Munroe’s music is akin to a taco – a thin white shell filled with anything his brain decides to add to the musical ingredients – which is suiting seeing as he favors tacos over BBQ for the local Austin fare.

A balladeer with the soul of a producer (he plays almost every instrument on his album) Colin Munroe cannot be easily cornered in his style. His soft-spoken musicians sensibility with his long-standing love of hip-hop – he is honest (admittedly from the sticks,” how could he have the agro for rapper fury?) He’s definitely a student of music by all accounts, melding and mixing self-produced sounds and textures within his moody crooning. Most of Colin’s songs resemble folky electronic music (intelligent in both his lyrics and his ambient instrumentation). Yet, he also let’s his love of hip-hop shine on certain tracks, like the one he did with Washington, DC rapper, Wale (still has his Nike boots). His debut album Don’t Think Less of Me produced under the expert tutelage of Dallas Austin uses a diverse range of sounds and textures to accompany his smooth calming voice, but his songs have a similar structure to the hip hop and R&B sounds he raised himself on. It’s no wonder why Colin is so diverse in his interests, as he has been culturing his obsession with all things instrumental since before the 9th grade.
Colin Munroe has the tools to become a force in music, in the same vein of Adam Levine, Dallas Austin and other multi-tooled players in the music game. Look out for him in the future, or check him out online at www.myspace.com/colinmunroe.
