Thursday, February 12th marked the first official NY fashion show at Red Bull Space. The show was an innovative collaboration between rising fashion designer, Laura Dawson, and Prototype, a program of the Buckminster Fuller Institute, combining Architecture and fashion in what has already been called “the birth of a New Design Movement”
The band is young, the drummer is a junior in high school but they perform with the fervor and frenzy of the early CBGBs scene makers. What struck me most by the 45 minute set was that the diverse crowd stuck with the band from the first song through the encore that they demanded from the band. This band calls to the forefront an energy that has all but dissapeared in contemporary music in decades and somehow, bafflingly, they infuse pop into the cocktail without polluting this sweet and volatile mix. The Shackeltons are a thing to behold. .
